About OpenForum Europe
OFE is a not-for-profit industry organization which was originally launched in 2002 to accelerate and broaden the use of Open Source Software (OSS) among businesses, consumers and governments. OFE's role has since evolved and its primary role now is to promote the use of open standards in ICT as a means of achieving full openness and interoperability of computer systems throughout Europe. It continues to promote open source software, as well as openness more generally as part of a vision to facilitate open, competitive choice for IT users. OFE is supported by major IT suppliers (including RedHat, Google, IBM, Oracle), user and consumer organisations, and national partners, together representing thousands of individual companies across Europe.

Internship Profile
The intern will be working directly with OFE staff in the Brussels office. Your main responsibilities will include :

  • Monitoring EU policy developments and alerting OFE's network on relevant issues ;
  • Help in preparing and organising events and meetings with the community and policy makers ;
  • Ad-hoc research on diverse policy areas ;
  • Prepare communication material for the website (press releases, white papers, policy statements) and social media ;
  • General office administration.
This is an intense, highly challenging opportunity where the intern will be given genuine responsibilities with only a minimum amount of low-level office tasks. The intern will be in a position to interact with senior figures from OFE's network and EU policy makers.
Desired Profile
'Must haves' :

  • Some knowledge and understanding of the EU decision making process ;
  • Some knowledge of and considerable interest in the open-source software movement and the IT industry ;
  • Self starter, reliable, able to multitask and prioritize own work ;
  • Good interpersonal and teamworking skills ;
  • Perfectly fluent in written and spoken English ; other EU languages considered an asset.
'Nice to have' :
  • In-depth understanding of the EU decision making process ;
  • IT background and experience working on a software project ;
  • Legal background and experience in analysing legislation and/or court cases.
All knowledge and skills should be demonstrable by experience.
