European Union is offering scholarships for EU and non-EU students
for International Master in Rural Development. The objective is to
train specialists in integrated rural development, focused on
socio-economic and institutional aspects. The scholarships are available
for pursuing master degree level. Applicants must have a Bachelor’s
degree of minimum 3 years with good overall scores (at least a second
class or equivalent, preferably higher) from a university or recognized
equivalent. The scholarships will be awarded on the basis of merit.
About Scholarship: The joint International Master in Rural Development (IMRD), part of the European Erasmus Mundus programme, offers the opportunity to study the European vision on rural development in its diversity of approaches and applications, on a scholarship provided by the European Union. The objective is to train specialists in integrated rural development, focused on socio-economic and institutional aspects, not only from the European Union but also from developed, developing and transition countries outside the European Union through a 2 year master programme (120 ECTS) jointly organised by six European leading institutes in agricultural economics and rural development.
Study: Scholarships are provided for International Master in Rural Development to study the European vision on rural development in its diversity of approaches and applications. Course Level: The scholarships are available for pursuing master degree level. Scholarship Provider: European Union Scholarship can be taken at: Ghent University (Belgium), Agrocampus Ouest (France) and Humboldt University of Berlin (Germany), Slovak University of Agriculture in Nitra (Slovakia), University of Pisa (Italy) and Wageningen University (The Netherlands), University of Pretoria (South Africa), ESPOL (Ecuador), University of Agricultural Sciences of Bangalore (India), China Agricultural University and Nanjing Agricultural University (China).
Eligibility: The International MSc in Rural Development offers admission to applicants who appear to have the highest potential for graduate study and who – with the benefit of a graduate education – are the most likely to contribute substantially to their academic or professional fields through teaching, research, or professional practice. The minimum graduate admission requirements are:
-Applicants must have a Bachelor’s degree of minimum 3 years with good overall scores (at least a second class or equivalent, preferably higher) from a university or recognized equivalent.
Candidates are expected to have basic science training (demonstrable in the transcripts) in the following fields: (1) mathematics and/or statistics; (2) agronomy and/or biology and/or environmental sciences; and (3) social sciences and/or rural development and/or economy. Candidates who cannot present a combined training of these fields will be evaluated on their aptitude, based on experience and knowledge of these fields, as demonstrated by CV or other evidence.
-Sufficient language knowledge proven by language certificates. The applicant must be proficient in the language of the course or training programme, i.e. English. Command of the English language is a very important criterion for admission. All students must proof their level of English.
Scholarship Open for: International students ( EU and non EU) can apply for the scholarships (Erasmus Mundus offers scholarships non-European students (Category A) and to European students (category B).
Duration: Scholarships will be offered for two years.
Value: For Erasmus Mundus Grants for non-EU students (Category A): The EM scholarship covers the tuition fee and an additional amount is withheld for the administrative costs of the programme (registration, enrolment, subscription, administrative support, access to all faculty and university services, the organization of the case study, the organisation of the thesis defence, etc.) and other expenditures directly linked to the organisation of the course. The scholarship also includes a full cover insurance for the total duration of the study.
All other costs (travel to and within Europe, rent of accommodation, food, study materials,) are at charge of the student. The remainder of the scholarship is paid to the student in monthly installments. Payment of the scholarship starts after the arrival in Europe.
Grants are used as follows:
-Per academic year a tuition fee of 8.000 Euro is paid to the consortium
-This tuition fee includes a worldwide insurance cover
-Each month the student receives an installment of 1.000 Euro (24 months)
-A lump sum of 8.000 Euro is available for the students for installation and travel costs during the two academic years. This lump sum will be transferred in different installments.
For Erasmus Mundus Grants for non-EU students (Category B): Each year a number of grants of 23.000 Euro are available for EU students.
-Per academic year a tuition fee of 4.000 Euro is paid to the consortium. This tuition fee includes a worldwide insurance cover
-Each month the student receives an installment of 500 euro (24 months)
-In case of mobility to a third country partner institute for a minimum period of 1 semester or 30 ECTS, the student can receive an extra 3.000 Euro as a contribution to travel, installation and any other type of costs.
Selection criteria: The scholarships will be awarded on the basis of merit.
Notification: Applicants will be communicated to you by the end of February – beginning of March 2014.
