2013 Sri Lankan Government Presidential Scholarships for Foreign Students, Sri Lanka

Each year, Government of Sri Lanka offers 100 scholarships for foreign students to pursue undergraduate and postgraduate degree commencing in December 2013 in Sri Lanka. Scholarships are open for courses of studies other than Medical & Dental Sciences. Every student is required to undergo an HIV/AIDS test within a month after arrival. Candidates should apply for this scholarship with the recommendation of the government scholarship nominating agency (Ministry/Institution) of the respective country till 15.10. 2013.

Candidates can request for more than one course for securing chances to win a scholarship identifying their preferences as places are limited in some fields. Eligibility:
-Be a citizen of a country covered by this scholarship (A citizen of another country having Sri Lankan dual citizenship is not eligible to apply).
Undergraduate Applicants:
-Candidates with impressive result of an examination deemed equivalent to G.C.E. (Advance Level) Examination of Sri Lanka are eligible to apply for admission to universities in Sri Lanka. Applicants are advised to attach to their applications the original letter obtained from the Examinations Board concerned, to prove that their educational qualifications are equivalent to the G.C.E. (A/L) Examination conducted in Sri Lanka or the G.C.E. A/L examination of University of London or qualifications required for admission to a university in their own country to follow an undergraduate course of study leading to a Bachelor degree. Applicants should ensure that all required passes should be obtained in one and the same setting under a recognized Board of Examination.

Postgraduate Applicants:
- Applicants should possess a first degree from a recognized university with good academic merit to enroll a masters degree and for PhD studies, a Master/MPhil degree is required in addition to the first degree.

-Applicants must provide evidence of proficiency in English, i.e. a minimum score of 525 on TOEFL or 6.0 on IELTS for undergraduate studies. For Masters or PhD, the required marks should be a minimum score of 550 on the TOEFL or 6.5 on IELTS.

What does it cover? 
-Provide free of charge tuition and registration.
-Free of charge visa for studies.
-During the study period, a monthly living allowance of Rs.30, 000/- will be paid.

-Reimburse the cost of airfare (economy class) to come to Sri Lanka and return his/her country after Studies.
-Accommodation : It is expected that the scholarship recipient will meet the expenditure for food and accommodation with the monthly allowance of Rs.30, 000/- (The relevant university/higher educational institute will assist in finding suitable accommodation).
-Medical Cover: Free of charge medical benefits will be provided at government hospitals other than dental related diseases.

How to Apply: Each applicant should submit dully perfected 04 sets of applications (one original) along with all required documents to his/her government nominating agency by post.
-Each application should be recommended by the government nominating agency by filling out the section 09 B of the application
-The government nominating agency of the applicant should submit the applications with their recommendation to the Sri Lankan mission in his/her country for forwarding the same to the Ministry of Higher Education, Sri Lanka. Eiffel Scholarships for International Students in France, 2014/15

The French Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs offers Eiffel scholarships for international students annually. These scholarships are awarded for pursuing a master degree at French host higher education institutions and a PhD through a thesis joint supervision or co-tutorship with a foreign higher education institution partner. The scholarship supports for a maximum duration of 12 months for M2, a maximum of 24 months for M1, maximum duration of 36 months for an engineering science diploma and for a maximum duration of 10 months for PhD program. Applications for 2014/2015 academic year are open and will close on January 8th, 2014.
Study Subject (s): The three major areas of study covered by the Eiffel program are: Engineering sciences at Master level, sciences in a broader sense for PhD level (engineering sciences, exact sciences: mathematics, physics, chemistry and life sciences, nano and bio-technology, earth and environmental sciences, information and communication sciences and technology), Economics and management and Law and political science. Eligibility:
-Nationality: This program is for candidates of foreign nationality. Binational candidates, one of which nationality is French, are not eligible.
- Age: for programs leading to a master’s degree level, applicants must be at most 30 years old at the date of the selection committee, that is to say, born after 07/03/1983; for PhD applicants, candidates must be aged at most 35 years old on the date of the selection committee, that is to say, born after 03.07.1978.
- Origin of applications: Only applications sent by the French institutions are admissible. The latter undertake to enroll laureates in the training for which they were selected. Applications sent by other means are not receivable. In addition, a candidate nominated by more than one institution will see his application rejected.
- The training involved: Eligible candidates are likely to incorporate a training course of master level attested by a diploma, including engineering school, and PhD candidates. The French trainings relocated abroad are not affected, fellows, non doctoral, having to perform at least 75% of their studies in France.
- Concurrent scholarships: Foreign students already receiving a scholarship from the French government for another program at the time of filing the application are not eligible, even if it is a scholarship that supports social coverage.
- Eiffel doctoral Scholarship: an applicant who has already received an Eiffel scholarship under his PhD may not represent his candidacy again.
- Eiffel master Scholarship: a candidate whose folder was not selected may not represent its application in the following years, even if they change their field of study.
- Language level: institutions that screen non-francophone candidates must ensure that their language level is in line with the level required by the training course. Eventually, students currently studying abroad are given priority over those already residing in France

Scholarship Open for International Students: International students (except French students) are eligible to apply for these scholarships.
Scholarship Description: The French Ministry of Foreign Affairs launched the Eiffel excellence scholarship programme in January 1999 to support French centres of higher education in their international outreach initiatives, in a context of mounting competition among developed countries, to attract elite overseas students on master’s, engineering and PhD courses.
Duration of award(s):
For Master: The scholarship is attributed for a maximum duration of 12 months when registering for M2, a maximum of 24 months when registering for M1 and maximum duration of 36 months when registering for an engineering science diploma. It is awarded provided that the student fulfils the annual academic requirements of the curriculum.
For PhD: The Eiffel scholarship is attributed for a maximum duration of 10 months.

What does it cover?
-Master course: Eiffel scholarship-holders receive a monthly allowance of 1,181€ (1,031€ of maintenance allowance and 150€ of monthly compensation), in addition to which are covered directly various expenses: An international return travel, Health insurance and Cultural activities. They can also benefit from an additional accommodation allowance under certain conditions.
-PhD course: Eiffel PhD scholarship-holders receive a monthly allowance of 1,400€, in addition to which are covered directly various expenses: An international return travel (only one return trip will be covered for law and political science students who would undertake several stays in France), Health insurance and Cultural activities. They can also benefit from an additional accommodation allowance under certain conditions.

Selection Criteria: The selection is made by a committee composed of three colleges of experts (one for each field of study). The members of these colleges are not allowed to assess applications submitted by institutions to which they are linked institutionally. The selection criteria are:
- The excellence of the candidate, as reflected in his previous academic career and the innovative nature of the research topic (score out of 10, coefficient 3)
- The international policy of the establishment1 making the nomination, the actions it takes in the considered geographical area, the excellence of the host unit, The adequacy with the application submitted (note 5, coefficient 3 )
- Policy cooperation and partnership of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, notably the priority given to some countries for this program (note 5, coefficient 1).
The Committee assigns scores to candidates based on these three criteria and calculates the sum (of 50). Determines a threshold for eligibility, and the number of scholarships available, attributes them as follows:
- A minimum of 70% of the scholarships are awarded on the basis of the best scores.
- The remaining percentage is divided between schools that did not receive scholarship from eligible files.

Notification: Results will be announced in the week of March 17th, 2014.

2014 Princeton Postdoctoral Fellowships for US and International Students in USA

Princeton University offers Postdoctoral Fellowships for US and International Students in USA. Postdoctoral Fellowships are provided in the field Humanities and Social Sciences, LGBT Studies and Humanistic Studies at Princeton University. Fellowships will be awarded to candidates at the beginning of their academic career. Candidates must have already demonstrated outstanding scholarly achievement and excellence in teaching. Their work should also show evidence of unusual promise. The Society has a particular interest in fostering innovative interdisciplinary approaches in the humanities and social sciences.   
About Scholarship: The Princeton Society of Fellows, an interdisciplinary group of scholars in the humanities, social sciences, and selected natural sciences, invites applications for the 2014-2017 Fellowship competition. Four three-year Postdoctoral Fellowships will be awarded this year. 2014 Occupational-Environmental Health Colt Foundation Fellowships in UK

Colt Foundation is offering fellowships each year to persons who are qualified in science or medicine who are carrying out research within the area of occupational and environmental health at a UK university. The Fellowship is normally for three years and the research is expected to lead to a PhD degree. UK/EU and overseas students can apply for the fellowships. The stipend rate for the first year is £14,000 (£16,000 inside London), rising with inflation for the following two years. Payments will include UK/EU fees and overseas candidates applying would be expected to meet the difference in UK/EU and International rates. 
About Scholarship: The Foundation awards Fellowships each year to persons who are qualified in science or medicine who are carrying out research within the area of occupational and environmental health at a UK university. The Fellowship is normally for three years and the research is expected to lead to a PhD degree. We do not have application forms and prospective students should apply to Mrs Jackie Douglas, address below, including an outline of the proposed research which demonstrates the occupational content of their work, a CV, a detailed letter of support from the proposed supervisor and the contact details of two referees.
The application must be submitted by the student personally and not by their supervisor on their behalf, although it is expected that the supervisor will have an input to ensure that the project can lead to a successful PhD. Fellowships are awarded in competition and are a personal award to the student, and the outline must therefore contain sufficient detail to enable the Selection Panel to determine that the work has been well-designed, that the work is worthwhile and can be completed in the three-year period, and to enable the Panel to decide which students should be interviewed.
The stipend rate for the first year is £14,000 (£16,000 inside London), rising with inflation for the following two years. International Climate Protection Fellowships for Developing Countries in Germany, 2014

Federal Environment Ministry’s (BMU) is funding International Climate Protection Fellowships for Non European and developing countries’ applicants. Up to 20 International Climate Protection Fellowships are granted annually for a period of one year in Germany. Fellowships are available for prospective leaders to conduct a research-based project in the field of climate protection and climate-related resource conservation during a one-year stay in Germany. Funding covers fellowship amount per month which includes a mobility lump sum and a contribution towards health and liability insurance. Online application will be submitted by 15 March 2014.
Study Subject (s): The fellowship is awarded in climate protection and climate-related resource conservation. Course Level: This fellowship is for pursuing research prgramme in Germany. Eligibility: -Applicants must demonstrate clearly visible leadership potential based either on experience in initial leadership positions or on appropriate references.

-Furthermore, they must have extensive professional experience in a leadership role (at least 48 months at the time of application) or hold a further academic or professional qualification.

*The fellowships target prospective leaders from non-European emerging and developing countries, who are engaged in the field of climate protection and climate-related resource conservation in non-governmental organisations, public administrations, politics, academia or business in their countries.

Scholarship Description: The global challenge posed by climate change can only be met by cross-border international collaborations. This programme makes a contribution to this by enabling future decision-makers and multipliers to conduct a research-based project in cooperation with specialist colleagues in Germany. Funding is available for project proposals which address issues directly relating to climate protection as well as adaptation to climate change, e.g. in the area of climate-related resource conservation. The project should facilitate the mutual exchange of knowledge, methods and techniques between the fellows and their hosts in Germany, taking into account the question of practical applicability in the fellows’ countries. Contacts to various institutions in different sectors (universities, research institutes, ministries, environmental authorities, companies, non-governmental organizations, etc.) in the context of the project are expressly welcomed. In addition to financing the project, the fellowship aims to facilitate and promote the development of long-term contacts and collaborations with colleagues in Germany.
In the course of group programme events (introductory seminar, training courses, final meeting) during the fellowship year, fellows should gain an overview of climate protection and climate-related resource conservation as well as the important actors in these fields in Germany. Another objective of the programme is to create cross-border, cross-disciplinary networks amongst the fellows as a precondition for building an international expert network on climate protection and climate-related resource conservation. As a long term objective, networking should be extended to include scientists working in these fields in the respective countries who are members of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation’s network of excellence.
Number of award(s): Up to 20 International Climate Protection Fellowships are granted annually.
Duration of award (s): The following timetable for the one-year stay in Germany is designed to facilitate networking amongst the fellows and is mandatory for everyone:
- January, February 2015: intensive language course in Germany (optional)
- March 2015: introductory seminar – April 2015

What does it cover? The fellowship amount reflects the fellow’s academic and professional qualifications, current position and professional experience and is currently set at 2,150 EUR, 2,450 EUR or 2,750 EUR per month. This includes a mobility lump sum and a contribution towards health and liability insurance.
Allowance for research costs to be paid to the hosts in Germany amounting to 800 EUR per month (for projects in the natural and engineering sciences) and 500 EUR (for projects in the humanities and social sciences); Language fellowship for a one- to two-month intensive language course in Germany immediately prior to the start of the fellowship; when a fellowship has been granted, the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation may provide financial support for improving fellows’ language skills while they are still in their own countries.
Fellows with little or no knowledge of German are strongly advised to take a two-month intensive language course in Germany;
-Lump sum for the fellow’s travel expenses if the costs are not borne by a third party;
-Europe allowance for a maximum of one to two months spent studying or researching at an institution in another European country during the fellowship, provided that this is necessary to carry out the project in question.
-Family allowances for visits by family members lasting at least three months (up to 326 EUR per month for the marital partner and up to 234 EUR per month for each child);
-For single parents accompanied by children under the age of 18 on stays of at least three months, an allowance is available (400 EUR per month for the first child, 100 EUR for every additional child);
-Additional extension of the fellowship by up to three months if children under 12 also accompany the fellow to Germany;
-Extensive alumni funding after successfully completing the stay in Germany, especially support for networking with collaborative partners in Germany during the fellow’s entire career.

Notification: After reviewing the applications, an independent selection committee will decide, probably by the beginning of July 2014, which candidates will be invited to participate in a selection meeting in Germany lasting several days. This selection meeting will take place from 16 to 19 September 2014 and applicants will be given the opportunity to outline their project to the selection committee and the other applicants as well as to attend individual interviews held by the selection committee. At the end of the meeting the selection results will be announced.

Eligibility Criteria
1- Testing Information:
- The SAT or ACT with Writing, as well as two SAT Subject Tests. Students should not submit two Subject Tests in mathematics to meet this requirement. Candidates whose first language is not English should ordinarily not use a Subject Test in their first language to meet the two Subject Test requirements.
- In order for your application to be considered complete, the official test scores should be submitted directly to Harvard by the testing agency on your behalf. If they do not receive your official scores from the testing agency, they will be unable to make an admissions decision.
- While Harvard honors the College Board’s Score Choice program and allows you to submit tests taken as late as January for consideration, the students are advised to Regular Decision candidates to complete and submit at least one component of the required tests (SAT or ACT with Writing or two College Board Subject Tests) by the end of November. This will allow them to begin their evaluation process for those submitting applications by December 15.
- For Early Action candidates, the university hopes to receive all testing results by the end of October, but students are still eligible to apply using the November series. Those results will arrive in time for consideration without the need and expense of “rush reporting.”

Program Description

2013-2014 Banting Postdoctoral Fellowships in Canada

Each year, the Government of Canada offers Banting postdoctoral fellowships program for Canadian and foreign citizens.
