This internship is based in VSO’s Brussels Liaison Office, which works to maximise VSO’s impact on poverty through building partnerships and engaging with key EU stakeholders. The intern will work with the EU Partnership Manager and assist in the day to day policy and engagement work of the EU office, and the intern will in particularly support the work to organise and carry out a large VSO event in Brussels in the beginning of December 2014.
In February 2013 VSO opened a small EU Liaison office in Brussels with the purpose of stepping-up VSO’s engagement with the EU. The Liaison office ensures that VSO as a whole is informed about relevant EU policy and funding issues, the office ensures that VSO’s voice is present in relevant policy discussions such as the discussions around the future post-2015 framework and the office works to raise the profile of VSO as a leading development organisation towards EU stakeholders. The intern’s work will contribute to the work of the Brussels Liaison office in general, and will in particular support with the work to organise and carry out a large VSO event. In return, the intern will gain valuable experience in working with development policy at an EU level within an established international development organisation.
VSO is looking for someone who can support the EU Partnership Manager to organise and successfully carry out a large VSO event in Brussels in the beginning of December 2014. The intern can expect to be involved in all aspects of this event from the initial planning phases to the running of the event on the day, including managing invitations, liaising with the event venue, preparing briefings for panellists and communications aspects of the event. Furthermore, the purpose of the role is to support the EU Partnership Manager in the day to day policy and engagement work of VSO’s EU office. The intern can expect to be involved in activities such as mapping of the newly elected Members of the European Parliament, policy monitoring of relevant development debates in the EU Institutions and supporting VSO advocacy work around the post-2015 negotiations.
Please note that this internship is unpaid, but VSO will reimburse local travel and lunch expenses.
