Communications Intern EMMA - European Magazine Media Association

The European Magazine Media Association (EMMA) is a non-profit organization representing over 15.000 publishers throughout Europe publishing over 50.000 magazine titles in Europe, reaching on average 80% of European adults. 300 million Europeans read magazines on a regular, consistent basis.
EMMA is offering an unpaid internship at the Secretariat’s offices in Brussels for a period of 6 months (a small allowance for transport and food will be provided). The ideal candidate would be able to start as soon as possible, but we remain flexible with the dates. Applicants will be interviewed on a rolling basis.
This internship position will be tied to a specific project within EMMA: the development and launch of the 3rd EMMA magazine, titled “Empowering Citizens”. The position will therefore be beneficial to a candidate who is looking to gain professional experience related to the organisation, development and promotion of such a publication.
Duties:
  •  Assisting in the development of an editorial plan for the publication.
  • Conducting research for certain sections of the publication.
  • Assisting in the design/lay-out of certain sections.
  • Managing the production schedule, including chasing authors/journalists when it comes to content, making sure deadlines are met, coordinating with the key players.
  • Liaising with advertising and production editors in creating the final product.
  • Updating and monitoring EMMA’s online activities, including the social media accounts and the EMMA website.
  • Activities related to event organisation (registration, coordination with suppliers, etc.).
  • Assisting the Communication Officer in developing and implementing new communication activities.
 Qualifications:
  • The person should be an excellent team-player and be interested in media policy in the EU context. Knowledge of EU policies and institutions an advantage.
  • Candidate should have excellent English language skills and very good written and verbal communication skills. Knowledge of German is a strong asset, though not required.
  • Strong IT skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, database)
  • Knowledge of website maintenance desired (particularly familiarity with the WordPress platform)
  • The candidate should be self-motivated, well organized, able to work efficiently and autonomously.
EMMA internships are only open to candidates registered in a university/school/institute, as a contract must be signed between EMMA and the student’s home university. Please note that this is a compulsory condition; applications that do not match this criterion will not be short listed.
