2014 CMP PhD Studentship at University of Kent in UK

Centre for Molecular Processing (CMP) is inviting applications for PhD studentship available for UK/EU and Overseas students. This PhD studentship provides a stipend at RCUK standard Home/EU rates, (currently £13,863 per annum) and covers Home/EU tuition fees. The successful candidate will be appointed as Graduate Teaching Assistant (GTA) and will be expected to undertake some teaching commensurate with their experience. Application should be submitted till 25th April 2014.
About Scholarship: This studentship is funded by the Centre for Molecular Processing (CMP) at the University of Kent. Molecular Processing encompasses the mechanisms and cellular requirements that influence disease states, cellular processes and the synthesis of therapeutic agents and bio medicines from biological systems (e.g. bacterial, yeast, mammalian systems). The University of Kent has a long and successful history of research in these areas. The Centre builds upon Kent’s strengths in Molecular Processing by integrating and linking the expertise and know-how of research groups and Schools across the Faculty of Sciences at Kent.
Study: Studentship is awarded for a research project on “Development of Image Analysis applications for Biomedical Research”. This project will provide the successful candidate with the rare opportunity to develop multidisciplinary skills in automation and system design (Engineering) as well as in biological experimentation and molecular cell biology (Biosciences). Eligibility: Candidates should have a first class or good 2.1 honours degree in a relevant degree. The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate a basic understanding of (or is willing to learn) data analysis programmes (e.g. Matlab) and an interest in developing engineering solutions for Biology problems.

Value: This PhD studentship provides a stipend at RCUK standard Home/EU rates, (currently £13,863 per annum) and covers Home/EU tuition fees. The successful candidate will be appointed as Graduate Teaching Assistant (GTA) and will be expected to undertake some teaching commensurate with their experience. This studentship can be awarded to overseas-fee paying students if the fee difference between the home/EU and overseas fee is covered by other sources.
