Applications are invited for Erasmus Mundus Scholarship for
CAN Program. The Erasmus Mundus CAN project is coordinated by the
University of Oviedo (Spain), with the support, as coordinator of the
Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (Brazil). All mobilities must be of
the European Union towards Latin or from Latin America to the European
Union. The programme expects to award a total of 190 scholarships. All
mobilities must begin between September and December. The scholarship
covers a round trip ticket from the country of origin to the host
university, health insurance, visa fees and a monthly
allowance. Application should be submitted till 19th of March 2014.
About Scholarship: The EACEA (Education, Audiovisual and Culture Executive Agency) is the body that, acting under powers delegated by the Commission of the European Communities, is in charge of the management of the Erasmus Mundus Programme. The project Erasmus Mundus Puedes is coordinated by the University of Oviedo (Spain), with the support, as co-coordinator, of the Universidad Federal del Estado de Rio de Janeiro (UNIRIO – Brazil).
Study: The positions offered by partners of European Union covering all thematic fields of the call, especially in areas identified as priorities for promoting academic participation in economic and social development: Direction and Management, Engineering and Technology, Law, Health Sciences and Social Sciences. Places of mobility in Latin America are concentrated in areas of study with a long tradition in the region, such as Agricultural Science or Geology, and other noteworthy as renewable energy, climate change and human rights. Course Level: Scholarships are available to undergraduate, master, PhD, postdoctoral students and staff for a CAN project. Scholarship Provider: Commission of the European Union Erasmus Scholarship can be taken at: Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, México, Paraguay, Peru, Poland, Spain and UK (All mobilities must be of the European Union towards Latin or from Latin America to the European Union).
Eligibility: Applications will be divided in three different Target Groups, as defined by the EACEA. These groups are TG1, TG2 and TG3, and they are defined as follows:
-TG1 are the applicants that, at the moment of application, are registered at one of the institutions within the partnership. Undergraduate students must have successfully completed at least one year of studies in their home institution.
-TG2 are the applicants that, at the moment of application, are registered in a Higher Education Institution (not included in the partnership) concerned by the lot or obtained a university degree or equivalent from a HEI of the lot countries.
-TG3 are the applicants nationals of one of the countries of the lot and are part of a vulnerable target group. Students who are in a particularly vulnerable situation, for social or political reasons, for example: having a refugee status or asylum beneficiaries; it can be proved that they have been the object of unjustified expulsion from university on racial, ethnic, religious, political, gender or sexual inclination; belong to an indigenous population targeted by a specific national policy or internally displaced persons. No financial disadvantage or having suffered the consequences of a natural disaster can be considered here.
If you want to apply for an Erasmus Mundus Action 2 PUEDES scholarship, you have to fulfil these conditions:
-You must be a national of one of the countries indicated on the lot (EU, Bolivia, Peru, Ecuador, Paraguay, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Mexico, Panama, Uruguay and Venezuela), regardless of the TG you belong to.
-You have not resided or carried out your main activity (work, study, etc) for more than a total of 12 months over the last five years in one of the European countries at the time of submitting your application. This rule does not apply to TG3 or EU applicants.
-You must submit the requested documentation through the online tool within the advertised deadline. No handed application will be accepted and no exception will be made to applications not submitted within the deadline.
-Every mobility must be from EU to LA or from LA to EU. It is not possible to request a mobility from one LA country/university to another LA university.
-You did not enjoy another Erasmus Mundus scholarship within the same programme or at the same level of studies. If you did enjoy any other EU scholarship at any time, you must clearly state so on your CV.
Scholarship Open for: According to the criteria of the call for this program and this set, there are three groups of countries: European Union (Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and United Kingdom), Latin American Countries, Group A: Bolivia, Peru, Ecuador and Paraguay and Latin American Countries, Group B: Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Mexico, Panama, Uruguay and Venezuela.
Number of awards: The programme expects to award a total of 190 scholarships. 40 moving from EU to LA and 150 from LA to EU. Out of the 150, 50% will be allocated to LA countries from Group A. At least 26% of the scholarships must go to TG3. The actual number of scholarships on each call will be decided by the Selection Committee of the programme.
Duration: These are total scholarships that are planned for the duration of the programme.
Value: The scholarship covers: one return ticket from the home country to the host university, health insurance, visa costs, and a monthly allowance. The student will not have to pay registration fees at the host university. The monthly allowance depends on the level of study: €1,000 (undergraduate and master), €1,500 (PhD), €1,800 (post-doctoral) and €2,500 (staff). For a student to receive the allowance for a month, s/he must stay at the host university at least 16 days. Payments of these allowances can only be made onto European bank accounts under the name of the scholarship beneficiary. The relevant official exchange rate will be made for payments in another currency.
Selection Criteria: Each partner university reviews both the outgoing and the incoming applications. The host university (the one that will receive the student) evaluates each application according to a previously agreed rating:
-Motivation letter: 2 points
-CV: 3 points
-Transcript of records/degree: 5 points
-Language skills: 3 points
-Workplan proposal and impact: 2 points (for PhD, Post-Doc and staff)
-Other documents that are relevant: learning agreement, approval letter and TG3 justification
Notification: Applications continue an evaluation process that may take several weeks, depending on the volume of requests. Results of awarded applicants and waiting list will be published on the website and, within a few days of the publication, each applicant will be communicated via email, informing if each academic selection made was considered as rejected, on waiting list or accepted for a scholarship.
Apply: You must apply through the online tool provided. You only need a valid email. If you submitted your application in a previous call, you have to start the registration process again, it will not be accessible information from previous calls. Be sure to upload all required documents by the deadline. In application tool you can select the academic offerings by universities. You can only select an academic program for college, up to three options.
