Istanbul Studies Center at Kadir Has University invites applications for a nine month Doctoral/Post-doctoral Residency Fellowship starting in the spring semester of 2012- 2013 academic year. We are interested in proposals that involve comparative perspectives and methods of understanding the city in general, and Istanbul in particular. Istanbul Studies Center (ISC) is an interdisciplinary forum for innovative research on socio-economic, political, and cultural processes in world cities, with a focus on Istanbul. The main goal of the ISC is to encourage research on Istanbul, a world city in rapid change.Eligibility
- The applicants for the Doctoral Residency Fellowship should be ABDs (All but Dissertation) and/or carrying out their fieldwork/research.
- The applicants for the Post-doctoral Residency Fellowship should have received their PhDs after 2008.
Scholarship
- During their residency the doctoral fellows are
expected to give public lectures under the lecture series of the ISC
and, depending on their qualifications, they will be expected to
contribute to the undergraduate teaching at Kadir Has. The language of
instruction at Kadir Has is in English.
The selected fellows, as affiliates of the ISC, will have the right to apply funding from TUBITAK (The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey); please see Research Fellowships For Foreign Citizens - During their residency the post-doctoral fellows
are expected to give public lectures under the lecture series of the ISC
and take part or organize workshops/conferences hosted by the Center,
and, depending on their qualifications, they will be expected to teach
one course per semester at Kadir Has.

Application procedure
- The applicant for Doctoral Residency Fellowship should send a cover letter, full academic CV, transcript, dissertation research proposal (not more than 8 pages single space), and the names of two references. The applicants should be ABDs (All but Dissertation) and/or carrying out their fieldwork/research.
- The applicant for Post-Doctoral Residency Fellowship should send a cover letter, full academic CV, research proposal the applicant will carry out in Istanbul(not more than 8 pages single space), and one-page descriptions of the courses which will be offered(including a short reading list)and the names of three references. The applicants who have received their PhDs after 2008 are eligible to apply.
