Description

The European Media Art Network and its partners provide grants for residencies between April and September 2013 in Mexico, England, Germany, France and the Netherlands. The basic purpose of the program is to enable European artists to collaborate on projects and consequently to create closer bonds between European media organisations.
The unification and extension of Europe, triggered by the collapse of the Eastern Bloc, has created new problems to be faced as well as new opportunities for cooperation and exchange. This period of transition has been characterized on the one hand, by the challenge to become more ‘European’– which generally has meant, more homogenous – and, on the other, by a desire to define what constitutes national and regional identity, in order both to retrieve a sense of traditional cultures, now lost; and to consider how respective national and cultural identities might enrich and enhance one another, as opposed to being divisive.
EMAN/EMARE offers an opportunity to work within these bounds, as defined by the individual artists, which enables the latter to develop their own projects within a new context, and thereby give something back, in turn, to their host organization. This process of encouraging artists’ projects and building stronger links between media organizations is enhanced by the rapid development of network technologies and also reflects the moves towards integration taking place throughout Europe.
EMARE MEXICO includes a grant of €2.000, free accommodation, up to €900 travel expenses, access to the technical facilities and media labs and a professional presentation. In addition, all artists participating in 2012 and 2013 will take part at the final exhibition in Mexico City in October 2013.

Eligibility

European artists can apply for a two months residency at Centro Multimedia in Mexico City and Centro de Arte y Nuevas Technologias (CANTE) in San Luis Potosi. Any artist who works with digital media and is in possession of a valid European residence permit and identity card is eligible to apply.
Mexican-based media artists in the fields of digital media including internet and computer based art, filmmakers, sound and video artists are invited to apply for a two months artist residency at IMPAKT, Utrecht, Netherlands; Bandits Mages, Bourges, France; FACT, Liverpool, United Kingdom or at Werkleitz Centre for Media Arts in Halle, Germany.
Students are not permitted, but young artists encouraged.
