Communications Officer position Amsterdam

TERENA, the Trans-European Research and Education Networking Association, offers a forum for collaboration, innovation and knowledge sharing in order to foster the development of Internet technology, infrastructure and services to be used by the research and education community. The development and progress in Internet technology have been led by the research community since the very beginning of the Internet, and this is still the case today. In Europe, this leading role is made possible by the collaboration of network engineers, managers and technical experts, facilitated and supported by TERENA. The association's core business is to bring together members of the research networking community from different countries in Europe, mobilising the expertise and experience of hundreds of professionals in the research and education networking area. The TERENA Secretariat is a small team of about 18 people and is housed in the centre of Amsterdam.

The staff provides technical support to TERENA's activities, supports TERENA's executive bodies, organises conferences and workshops, provides administrative and financial support, and handlee internal communications, external communnications and public relations in a range of contexts.
   
The working language of TERENA is English.
TERENA currently has a vacancy for a Communications Officer.

COMMUNICATIONS OFFICER
Duties
The Communications Officer will work closely with the Senior Communications Officer.
- Their tasks include TERENA's own corporate communications and dissemination for projects in which the Secretariat has a PR role. - They also support the communications work of TERENA's 40 national member organisations, with whom they collaborate in TERENA's Task Force on Communications and Public Relations (TF-CPR).
- The Communications Officer writes, designs and produces PR materials, and liaises with relevant technical experts.
- He/she measures, evaluates and reports on the effectiveness of TERENA's public relations activities and other relevant activities.
- The Communications Officer may organise and attend meetings of TF-CPR, and participates in its activities. He/she does DTP work for TERENA publications and liaises with external designers and printers.
 
Skills and Qualifications
- Excellent spoken and written English,
- excellent editorial skills,
- demonstrable experience in this area.
- Good DTP skills (InDesign, Photoshop), good general computer skills.
- Good team player but able to work independently and show initiative.
- Good organisational skills.
- Experience in an international environment and working with people from different countries and cultures.
- Higher vocational education or a university degree in marketing, communications, public relations or a related field, or relevant other experience. An interest in and affinity for research and the Internet, preferably in a non-commercial environment.
- Previous experience in an ICT environment or knowledge of research and education networking would be an advantage.
- Dutch language skills would be an advantage.
 
The contract will be for an initial one year period with the possibility of extension.
The function can be performed on a full-time (39 hours per week) or part-time basis, with a minimum of 24 hours per week.

Gross monthly salary will be between € 3,241 and € 4,318, depending on qualifications and experience.
