Eligibility:
Residency: Full awards (fees plus maintenance stipend) are open to UK Nationals and EU students without further restrictions.
Academic Criteria: Eligible candidates should have, or expect to obtain, a minimum of an upper second-class first degree (2:1) or European equivalent and a Masters in Chemistry.
The successful candidate will also have a strong background in organic chemistry. First-hand experience in a relevant area of chemistry such as synthetic chemistry, catalysis or heterocyclic synthesis is highly desirable.
A highly motivated and dedicated student will gain a thorough training in synthetic organic chemistry and be rewarded with a highly stimulating project that will shape the future of this exciting new research program.

Applicants should send a brief covering letter outlining their motivation and experience for the position, as well as their curriculum vitae (including all University course grades to date) and the contact details of at least 2 academic referees to MorrillLC@cardiff.ac.uk.
Applicants must also submit an application for PhD in Chemistry, with a start date of 1 October 2015 via Cardiff University’s Online Application Service. In the research proposal section of your application, please specify the project title and supervisors of this project and copy the project description in the text box provided. In the funding section, please select “I will be applying for a scholarship / grant” and specify that you are applying for advertised funding from Cardiff University for the project in Synthetic Organic Chemistry supervised by Dr. Louis C. Morrill.
Once all the information has been received by Cardiff School of Chemistry and the assessment of the submitted documents is complete, you will be informed about your selection in the same.
