Assistant Policy Coordinator (Traineeship)

Amnesty International’s European Institutions Office in Brussels is looking for an assistant policy coordinator to work with the office’s Policy and Strategy Coordinator from January to the end of July 2013. This is an internship position.

Job Title: Assistant on Policy Coordination
Reports to: Policy and Strategy Coordinator
Duration: 6 Months (January to July 2013)
TASKS INCLUDE:
1.    General

  •     Reply to queries and follow-up on communication with internal and external stakeholders
  •     Support in the preparation of meetings and events
  •     Disseminating EIO documents internally within AI
  •     Assist the Policy and Strategy Coordinator with other tasks as required
2.    Advocacy support, planning and evaluation
  •     Coordinate and draft contributes to the European Institutions Office internal Newsletter
  •     Assist in the preparation of advocacy documents, including advocacy documents relating to the rotating presidency of the EU
  •     Ensuring that the advocacy calendar is up to date
  •     Attendance and participation on meetings relating to internal planning, strategy and evaluation
  •     Monitoring European Union and Council of Europe affairs
  •     Assisting with the completion of Amnesty International’s internal report on human rights trends in the European region for 2012
3.    Administrative
  •     Update and maintain files, databases and mailing lists
  •     Send out briefings/letters/Annual Reports
  •     Assist with presentations and organisation of events and meetings
  •     Format documents in line with the organisation’s templates
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:
  •     Prior experience working in a professional office environment, preferably within either European Union, Council of Europe institutions/or NGOs
  •     Excellent computer and administrative skills
  •     Strong communication skills and a native level of English
  •     Ability to manage varied workload effectively and conflicting demands
  •     Good planning and organisational skills
  •     Commitment to human rights protection and basic knowledge of human rights and the European Institutions
The traineeship offered will include training on Amnesty International’s general human rights work, planning, strategy and evaluation tools and on drafting and advocacy strategy techniques as well as training on job interview techniques.
You will be offered a “contract d’immersion professionnel”, making this a paid position (at present this is paid € 736,23 per month).
