UK Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) is funding PhD studentship
in Energy and Carbon Emissions at Cardiff School of Engineering in UK.
The award will cover fees at the Home/EU fee rate and will provide an
annual stipend. English language proficiency is required. The length of
studentship is of three years. Online application must be submitted by
30th November, 2013.
About Scholarship: Climate impact mitigation is one of key challenges for the development of short- and long-term national and international energy policies. The need to increase access to convenient forms of energy and lack of investment for development further complicates the context in the developing economies, who are predicted to be the major greenhouse gas emitter in the coming decades, if their pathways for development remain carbon-intensive. Making optimal decisions for decarbonisation pathways in developing countries is important to reduce the global impact of climate change, within the means of limited resources. This project aims to develop a cost modeling approach to identify sustainable investment pathways for decarbonisation of a developing economy, using Bangladesh as a case study. Outcomes will include a methodology for cost modeling of energy sector investments and optimal decision making. The PhD project is part funded by the UK Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) and offers the candidate an opportunity to closely work with DECC and other project stakeholders.

Eligibility:
-Academic Criteria: Applicants should hold or expect to gain an undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline (2.1 or 1st class honors) and/or an appropriate Masters level qualification.
-Applicants whose first language is not English will be required to demonstrate proficiency in the English language (IELTS 6.5 or equivalent).
-Residency: The full award is open to Home students, or EU candidates who have been resident in the UK for three years at the course start date. Other EU applicants may be eligible for a fees-only award.
