The Center for the Study of Islam in the UK (Islam-UK Center) at Cardiff University is offering MA Scholarships
in Islam in Contemporary Britain for start in September 2014. Four
scholarships are awarded for EU (Non UK) and UK students. Each
successful Cardiff University Jameel Scholar has full UK/EU tuition fees
paid and receives a generous stipend equivalent to an AHRC stipend plus
access to a travel & conference allowance. The application deadline

About Scholarship: The Center for the Study of Islam in the UK (Islam-UK Center) at Cardiff University is pleased to invite applications for the Cardiff University Jameel Scholarships. Four scholarships for the MA in Islam in Contemporary Britain are available for start in September 2014. Founded in 2005, the Islam-UK Center works towards the promotion of better understanding of Islam and the life of Muslims in Britain, through high quality teaching and research. Its activities address issues which are central to the situation of Muslims in contemporary Britain. The Center provides unique training and research opportunities for those seeking onward employment in a range of academic and non-academic careers. With the help of a very generous gift to the University, the Jameel Scholarships have been established to enable the very best students to come to Cardiff – those who have the intellect and determination to apply their knowledge for the benefit of Muslim communities in the UK, and to promote better understanding of Islam in wider society.

Eligibility:
•A first class or very high upper-second class honors degree in a relevant subject (Religious Studies, Islamic Studies, Social Sciences, Philosophy or History) from a UK university
•Full awards are open only to UK and EU nationals who satisfy UK residency requirements
•Priority will be given to candidates with a demonstrable record of interest in, and/or enthusiasm for, working with British Muslims
Scholarship Open for: EU (Non UK): Albania, Andorra, Austria, Belarus, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Macedonia, Malta, Moldova, Monaco, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, San Marino, Serbia and Montenegro, Slovakia (Slovak Republic), Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, Ukraine, Vatican City), UK applicants are eligible for this masters studentship.
Number of awards: Four scholarships are available for start in September 2014.
Duration: Duration of scholarship is 1 year full-time.
Value: Each successful Cardiff University Jameel Scholar has full UK/EU tuition fees paid and receives a generous stipend equivalent to an AHRC stipend plus access to a travel & conference allowance. Full-time MA awards will provide funding for one year.
Apply: All MA scholarship candidates are required to complete the following:
-A Cardiff University Postgraduate application for the MA Islam in Contemporary Britain: Full-time to start in September 2014 in the School of History, Archaeology and Religion. Applications must be submitted by 21 January 2014.
-An MA Jameel Scholarship Application Form, all sections of which must be completed in full. Completed forms must be submitted as an email attachment with the heading ‘MA Jameel Scholarships’ tojameelscholarships-at-cardiff.ac.uk by 21 January 2014.
-Two references, of which at least one, must be from a University from which the applicant has graduated. References should be completed on an MA Referee Report Form which should be sent as an email attachment tojameelscholarships-at-cardiff.ac.uk by 21 January 2014. Please note that it is the applicant’s responsibility to ensure that references are received by 21 January 2014. Failure to do so will compromise the application.
-A complete transcript of all marks achieved to date to be sent as an email attachment to jameelscholarships-at-cardiff.ac.uk by 21 January 2014. Failure to do so will compromise the application.
