Nano-Optics and Optoelectronics Research (NOOR) Lab, Masdar Institute
of Science and Technology offers two years masters degree scholarships
for pursuing MSc in Microsystems Engineering and research in areas of
photonics in UAE. The International students can apply for these
scholarships. The program covers full financial support and it includes
all tuition fees, medical insurance, housing, travel expenses, laptop,
and a cost of living allowance. Applicants must be proficient in English
and should have TOEFL, GRE Test score. The application submission
deadline is May 31, 2013.
Study Subject(s): Scholarships are for MSc in Microsystems Engineering at Masdar Institute and pursuing research in one of these selected fields of Photonics: silicon photonics and integrated optics; electronic-photonic integrated circuits; on-chip optical interconnects; optical sensors; chalcogenide glass-based infrared light emitting devices; thin film sige solar cells; chalcogenide glass-based infrared light emitting devices. Eligibility: -To become a student at NOOR Lab, one needs to apply for MSc in Microsystems Engineering at Masdar Institute.
-Some background in photonics is a plus it is by no means a requirement.
-Students with different backgrounds and in fact many faculty think that prior experience in photonics is relatively unimportant compared to the overall abilities and the level of motivation of the applicant.
-Scholarships/research assistant ships providing full financial support is available to students of all nationalities.
-A relevant undergraduate degree – undergraduate degrees must be in the fields of science, engineering or information technology
-CGPA – The minimum required for consideration for admissions is 3.0 on a scale of 4.0
-In the British system – the minimum required for consideration for admissions is 2nd class upper.
-GRE scores – The minimum score required on the GRE Quantitative is 700 (or 155 on the new scale). There is no cut-off score for the Verbal and Analytical but these scores are also important and evaluated.
-TOEFL (or academic IELTS) – The minimum TOEFL score required is 91 (Internet based) on the international TOEFL. Equivalent paper/computer based TOEFL is also accepted. The TOEFL can only be waived for native English speakers. The minimum academic IELTS score required is 6.5.*
-High grades and scores are a prerequisite but are no guarantee of admission. Admission standards are in accordance with those of MIT.
-Graduates from English medium institute in a native speaking country may get a waiver for the English proficiency requirements.

To become a student at NOOR Lab, one needs to apply directly to the Institute through the Institute’s admissions website.
