Because I am a Girl (BIAAG)
Because I am a Girl is Plan International’s global campaign to unleash the power of girls and women to claim a brighter future for girls in the developing world.
Specifically we are committed to building the human capital of girls through knowledge and skills, aiming to equip, enable and empower girls of all ages to acquire the assets, skills and knowledge necessary to succeed in life. We aim to benefit 4 million girls through our own direct programming around the world, and 400 million girls through improvements to legislations which currently limit their education, protection and potential.
The campaign was launched on international day of the girl-child, October 11th, 2012, bringing together Plan International’s offices in more than 70 countries around the world, and committing significant resources towards promoting girls' rights and lifting millions of girls out of poverty through the Because I am a Girl campaign.
The campaign has seen many successes in numerous Plan countries already, while the BIAAG ‘State of the World’s Girls’ report has also been produced annually since 2007. This report series provides the intellectual foundation for the campaign as well as acting as a major global repository of knowledge on girls in development.
