About Scholarship: Cognitive processing is remarkably adaptive: performance in everyday tasks as well as in laboratory experiments is highly sensitive to contingencies in the environment such that changes in environmental statistics are quickly met with corresponding changes in behaviour. This ability to adapt to the current environment is a central feature of cognition, yet widely different theories are invoked to explain these dynamics in different domains.
