2013-2014 University of Auckland Study Abroad Scholarships

Faculty of Arts, University of Auckland offers Study Abroad Scholarships in the field of languages & literature. To enable students of Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Russian and Spanish to undertake a period of formal study (minimum of four weeks) in a country where the language is spoken as the first language, thereby providing an opportunity for cultural immersion and first-hand experience of the language; to provide additional encouragement to pursue study at postgraduate level in languages and literatures.  The Scholarships will be open to students of the university of Auckland who, during the duration of the Scholarship, are enrolled part-time or full-time and who have paid the fees, or have arranged to pay the fees, for a second or third year of a foreign language major, or for a BA(Hons) or masters degree. in the case of third-year study. 
About Scholarship: The Scholarships were established in 1996 and are funded by the Faculty of Arts. To enable students of Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Russian and Spanish to undertake a period of formal study (minimum of four weeks) in a country where the language is spoken as the first language, thereby providing an opportunity for cultural immersion and first-hand experience of the language; to provide additional encouragement to pursue study at postgraduate level in languages and literatures.
The Scholarships shall be open to students of the University of Auckland who, during the duration of the Scholarship, are enrolled part-time or full-time and who have paid the fees, or arranged to pay the fees, for a second or third year of a foreign language major, or for a BA (Hons) or Masters Degree. In the case of second or third-year students preference may be given to those planning to enroll for a BA (Hons) or MA. Native speakers of the language are ineligible to apply. Previous holders of the Scholarship are eligible to apply if the (second) period of formal study is to be in a country where the first language is different to the one for which the first scholarship applied. 
Study: Scholarships are provided to study foreign language.
Course Level: Scholarships are available for 2nd/3rd year BA students or BA (Hons)/MA students.

Value: up to $2,000.

Selection criteria: Selection shall be based on academic merit, and the quality and relevance of the study abroad proposal submitted with the application. All such proposals and arrangements for credit must have the prior approval of the Head of the School/Department concerned and are subject to final approval by the Dean of Arts.
Apply: Applications using the appropriate form shall be submitted to the Scholarships Office, no later than dates indicated. Application forms are available from the Scholarships Office and the relevant School/Department.
