Eiffel Scholarships for International Students in France, 2015-2016

The French Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs offers Eiffel scholarships for international students annually. These scholarships are awarded for pursuing a master degree at French host higher education institutions and a PhD through a thesis joint supervision or co-tutorship with a foreign higher education institution partner. The scholarship supports for a maximum duration of 12 months for M2, a maximum of 24 months for M1, maximum duration of 36 months for an engineering science diploma and for a maximum duration of 10 months for PhD program. Applications for 2015/2016 academic year will close on January 9th, 2015.
Study Subject(s): The three major areas of study covered by the Eiffel program are: Engineering sciences at Master level, sciences in a broader sense for PhD level (engineering sciences, exact sciences: mathematics, physics, chemistry and life sciences, nano and bio-technology, earth and environmental sciences, information and communication sciences and technology), Economics and management and Law and political science. Eligibility:
-Nationality: This program is for candidates of foreign nationality. Binational candidates, one of which nationality is French, are not eligible.
-Age: for programs leading to a master’s degree level, applicants must be at most 30 years old at the date of the selection committee, that is to say, born after 07/03/1983; for PhD applicants, candidates must be aged at most 35 years old on the date of the selection committee, that is to say, born after 03.07.1978.
-Origin of applications: Only applications sent by the French institutions are admissible. The latter undertake to enroll laureates in the training for which they were selected. Applications sent by other means are not receivable. In addition, a candidate nominated by more than one institution will see his application rejected.
-The training involved: Eligible candidates are likely to incorporate a training course of master level attested by a diploma, including engineering school, and PhD candidates. The French trainings relocated abroad are not affected, fellows, non doctoral, having to perform at least 75% of their studies in France.
-Concurrent scholarships: Foreign students already receiving a scholarship from the French government for another program at the time of filing the application are not eligible, even if it is a scholarship that supports social coverage.
-Eiffel doctoral Scholarship: an applicant who has already received an Eiffel scholarship under his PhD may not represent his candidacy again.
-Eiffel master Scholarship: a candidate whose folder was not selected may not represent its application in the following years, even if they change their field of study.
-Language level: institutions that screen non-francophone candidates must ensure that their language level is in line with the level required by the training course. Eventually, students currently studying abroad are given priority over those already residing in France

Scholarship Open for International Students: International students (except French students) are eligible to apply for these scholarships.
Scholarship Description: The French Ministry of Foreign Affairs launched the Eiffel excellence scholarship programme in January 1999 to support French centres of higher education in their international outreach initiatives, in a context of mounting competition among developed countries, to attract elite overseas students on master’s, engineering and PhD courses.
Duration of award(s):
For Master: The scholarship is attributed for a maximum duration of 12 months when registering for M2, a maximum of 24 months when registering for M1 and maximum duration of 36 months when registering for an engineering science diploma. It is awarded provided that the student fulfils the annual academic requirements of the curriculum.
For PhD: The Eiffel scholarship is attributed for a maximum duration of 10 months.

What does it cover?
-
The Eiffel programme does not cover tuition fees, though the higher education centres concerned are invited to apply the best possible financial conditions to Eiffel scholarship-holders.
-Enrolment fees at state-run higher education centres are waived for students on French government scholarship programmes such as this.
Master’s courses : Eiffel scholarship-holders on Master’s courses receive an allowance of €1,181(1 031 EUR of maintenance allowance and 150 EUR  of monthly compensation), in addition, the programme meets various expenses including return trip, health insurance and cultural activities. Scholarship-holders might also be eligible for additional accommodation allowance.
-PhD courses: Eiffel scholarship-holders on PhD courses receive an allowance of €1,400. In addition, the programme meets various expenses including return travel (single return trip for law and political science students on multiple stays), health insurance and cultural activities. Scholarship-holders might also be eligible for additional accommodation allowance.
-Payment: The grant is paid monthly by bank transfer into a French account opened by the grantholder at the start of the course. Bank account details (RIB) shall be notified to Campus France.

Selection Criteria: The selection is made by a committee composed of three colleges of experts (one for each field of study). The members of these colleges are not allowed to assess applications submitted by institutions to which they are linked institutionally. The selection criteria are:
– The excellence of the candidate, as reflected in his previous academic career and the innovative nature of the research topic (score out of 10, coefficient 3)
– The international policy of the establishment1 making the nomination, the actions it takes in the considered geographical area, the excellence of the host unit, The adequacy with the application submitted (note 5, coefficient 3 )
– Policy cooperation and partnership of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, notably the priority given to some countries for this program (note 5, coefficient 1).
The Committee assigns scores to candidates based on these three criteria and calculates the sum (of 50). Determines a threshold for eligibility, and the number of scholarships available, attributes them as follows:
– A minimum of 70% of the scholarships are awarded on the basis of the best scores.
– The remaining percentage is divided between schools that did not receive scholarship from eligible files.

Notification: Results will be announced in the week of March 23th, 2015.

Commonwealth Shared Scholarships for Master’s Courses in UK, 2015-2016

Commonwealth Scholarship Commission in the United Kingdom (CSC) in partnership with UK universities offers Commonwealth Shared Scholarships for students from developing Commonwealth countries. Shared Scholarships are usually tenable for one-year Master’s courses only. Candidates are recruited and selected by UK host universities in the first instance. Selection criteria include: the academic merit of the candidate, as well as the likely impact of their work on the development of their home country. The EAS will close to applicants on 16 April 2015 and no further applications can be submitted after that date.

How to Apply: All applications must be made through your host UK university. You must check with them in the first instance for specific advice on how to make an application and for their own closing date. All Commonwealth Shared Scholarship candidates must be selected and put forward to the CSC by their host UK university, and must submit their application to the CSC using Electronic Application System (EAS). Candidates must apply for a Commonwealth Shared Scholarship using one of two methods, as instructed by the university:
-Via university: Applying to the university in the first instance using the university’s own application form. If selected, candidates will then be asked to submit an application to the CSC using the EAS. Any applications made via the EAS only and not directly to the university first will not be considered.
-EAS only: Applying to both the university and the CSC at the same time using the EAS. Each university has its own closing date for applications. Any applications received after this date will be deemed ineligible.

Communications Intern

The communications department of Cefic, the European Chemical Industry Council, has a rolling programme of internships for communications students reaching the end of their studies and young communications graduates. Cefic, the forum and voice of the chemical industry in Europe, is the largest European trade group in Brussels; we offer valuable and rewarding work experience in a welcoming, stimulating multicultural team.
The communications department needs interns with excellent spoken and written English to manage or help with various projects relating to sustainability, energy, health, safety and environment, in the following areas:

  • Publishing: web, print, social media;
  • Research and analysis; copywriting; drafting and publishing documents or blog posts;
  • Media relations;
  • Coordinating online-based communications projects;
  • Events.
The intern will work with the communications team and other colleagues in charge of specific issues, and report to the Media Relations Manager. The extent of their responsibilities and autonomy will depend on their capacity to take initiatives and manage projects, as well as their skills, areas of specialisation and previous experience, if any.

Typical projects can consist of:

  • Edit texts produced by issue experts, so as to make them reader-friendly and impactful;
  • Produce (collate, edit or draft) texts to be published on the Cefic website (www.cefic.org), Cefic's online sustainability platform for young academics and professionals (www.yourformula.eu), Cefic's newsletter or Cefic's members-only website Click-In;
  • Research a specific issue online and produce analyses and reports;
  • Help media relations manager organise and prepare for press briefings;
  • Help publishing manager with coordination and/or production of print or online publications;
  • Develop visually attractive presentations;
  • Once the intern is more familiar with the organisation, attend meetings and make suggestions on ways to communicate around a specific issue or event.

Profile

  • Able to work in English: excellent spoken and written English;
  • Ability to synthesize and translate complex issues into clear and concise messages;
  • Highly computer literate; familiar with web content management systems and social media;
  • An operational knowledge of web content management systems and related Internet tools, and/or elements of design and basic knowledge of publishing softwares are all assets;
  • Strong interpersonal skills;
  • Strongly motivated, high amount of initiative, enjoys working in a team.

Communications Team trainee European Schoolnet

European Schoolnet, a network of 31 Ministries of Educaion in Europe, is searching for a dynamic intern to join its Communications Team for six months.
The trainee will assist in European Schoolnet’s communications activities, such as updating and maintaining the corporate website and European Schoolnet’s social media profiles. The candidate should have a strong interest in and knowledge of web 2.0 technologies, social media and innovation in education. He/she will not only gain an insight into the work of an international not-for-profit organisation in education, but will also be given the opportunity to actively contribute to different communications activities of European Schoolnet.
 
The ideal candidate should possess:
  • Master’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., communications, journalism, media, education, international relations)
  • Fluent written and spoken English, additional languages would be an asset
  • Interest and familiarity with corporate social media (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn etc.) and Web 2.0 technologies
  • Preferably previous experience with web content management systems and other web publishing tools (ideally Liferay and Wordpress)
  • Good drafting skills
  • Strong organisational skills, flexibility and ability to learn fast
  • Ability to work independently and in a team
Main tasks:
  • Updating and maintaining European Schoolnet’s corporate website and other projects-related websites
  • Assisting in further development of European Schoolnet’s websites and liaising with external designers and European Schoolnet Technical team

  • Producing (collating, editing or drafting) content for the corporate website
  • Assisting in the production of newsletters from the content and formatting perspectives

Communications Intern Eurochild

We are looking for an intern to assist with Eurochild’s Communications work. Interns are part of the staff team and expected to contribute to the overall work of Eurochild, as appropriate.
Internship period: January/February 2015 to August 2015 (with possibility to extend to December 2015)
Our interns receive a standard remuneration (around 700 Euros).
Responsibilities?
  • Support with the production of the weekly "Info Flash" for Eurochild members (scanning the news channels, web- and paper-based research, compiling news items, summarizing and editing)
  • Support with the updating of our websites and news feed (Typo3/WordPress)
  • Support with Eurochild's Social Media presence
  • Support with updating and cleaning of our database
  • Support with the production of the monthly e-News Bulletin
  • Helping with organization of Eurochild events.
Qualifications:
  • University degree or relevant experience in journalism, media, communication
  • Excellent written and verbal English*
  • Other EU languages an advantage
  • Experience working with websites (knowledge of Typo3 and/or WordPress)*
  • Computer literacy (all MS office applications)*
  • Knowledge of EU institutions and policy making procedures is a plus
  • Experience with Social Media is a plus
