The University of Nottingham’s International Office is offering visiting fellowship
Scheme, which will allow early career researchers from outside the
European Union (EU) the opportunity to complete a three month period of
research in Nottingham. 30 fellowships are offered for three months. The
University of Nottingham will provide a stipend of £1,200 per month for
three months. Application deadline is 29 November 2013.
About Scholarship: The University of Nottingham’s International Office is pleased to announce the launch of the 2014 Visiting Fellowship Scheme, which will allow 30 early career researchers from outside the European Union (EU) the opportunity to complete a three month period of research in Nottingham.
Study: Fellowships are provided in the following research areas: Ageing and care needs, Aroma release from complex food systems, Art and the American Midwest, Astronomy and Astrophysics, Cardiovascular and metabolic effects of insulin in type 2 diabetes, Developing an in silico model to predict micronutrient changes during renal replacement therapy, Development of bioenergy systems and novel applications for wastes, Effective leadership in schools, Entrepreneurship, creativity, enterprise and innovation, Exploring organisations from the vantage point of experimental economics, Fast Time resolved IR measurement of excited states and reaction mechanisms, Germ cell ontogeny in primitive rodents, Granular pavement bases to replace asphalt, High performance computing for molecular modelling, High performance computing methods for biomolecular simulation and drug design, Identification and characterisation of signature of selection for adaptive traits in tropical livestock, Magnetic resonance imaging and spectroscopy, Molecular devices for solar energy conversion, Molecular mechanisms and therapeutic targeting for persistent myofibroblast differentiation in idopathic pulmonary fibrosis, Music and democracy, Nanoscience and nanotechnology, New effective descriptions of deformable, adaptively remodelling biological tissue, Nineteenth-century Latin American history – the political independence process, Parsimony and fundamentality, Particle theory and cosmology, Quantum information theory and technology, Quantum systems and technologies, Real time mass spectrometry as a tool to ensure a sustainable food supply chain (global food security), Simulations relating to bioprocesses in ionic liquids, Specific research project in the field of mucosal biology, Steel frames structural performance under fire hazards following earthquakes, Telephone conversations between health care professionals and women in early labour, The anatomy and morphology of the body following genetic knockdown, Understanding lifestyle risk factors for the development and progression of osteoarthritis, Understanding the molecular mechanisms that trigger Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson’s disease and Zinc homeostasis in pathogenic Escherichia coli strains.

Eligibility: In 2014 the scheme will be open to a total of 30 early career University lecturers or post-doctoral researchers currently working at recognized universities (as defined by The University of Nottingham) in countries outside of the European Union (EU).
-For the purposes of this scheme, “early career” shall mean five years or less experience of working in academia post completion of PhD.
-The scheme is not open to students or faculty with more than five years’ experience.
Scholarship Open for: The students from outside the European Union can apply for the fellowships.
Number of awards: 30
Duration: Three months
Value: The University of Nottingham will provide a stipend of £1,200 per month for three months. By means of comparison, the UK Government recommends that students studying in the UK should expect to spend £800 per month. Accommodation will be booked on your behalf and this will be deducted from the total amount. It is expected that accommodation will be in the region of £500 per month, although this is yet to be confirmed. Additionally, The University of Nottingham will provide a contribution to fellows’ air fares. The University will refund the cost of a return economy flight up to a maximum of £800. Receipts must be provided to receive the payment. Only economy class flights will be refunded. The stipend and the contribution to the flights will all be made in cash in Pounds Sterling upon arrival in Nottingham.
Notification: The University aims to notify all applicants whether they have been successful in December 2013.
