The University of York is inviting applications for 12 PhD positions to
work on the European Commission funded CAPACITIE (Cutting-Edge
Approaches for Pollution Assessment in Cities) project which aims to
develop novel approaches for assessing pollution in city
environments. Successful candidates will be required to take up the PhD
position on 1 March 2014 and will receive a competitive salary (? 38,000
Euro) and travel allowances for a period of 36 months. Women

About Scholarship: The University of York is pleased to offer a unique opportunity to train the next generation of interdisciplinary workers in the area of pollution monitoring. We are seeking 12 enthusiastic researchers, with an interest in environmental pollution, to work on the European Commission funded CAPACITIE (Cutting-Edge Approaches for Pollution Assessment in Cities) project which aims to develop novel approaches for assessing pollution in city environments. The project will involve the Departments of Environment, Chemistry, Computer Science, Electronics, Physics and Sociology at York. By joining the project, you will have the opportunity to work at a World leading University and to become part of an exciting research endeavor at the interface between environmental science, chemistry, electronics, and computer and social science. You will benefit from a series of CAPACITIE training courses on environmental pollution, monitoring technologies, environmental policy, smart cities and transferrable skills. You will also be required to spend some time working with partner organisations (e.g. IBM, Siemens, Arup, PerkinElmer and the US Geological Survey) and will have the opportunity to travel to the CAPACITIE case study cities in Seoul and Berlin.

Eligibility: To be eligible, you must hold at least an upper second class honours degree (BSc or equivalent) and be within four years of your first degree. The positions are only available to non-UK residents and those who have resided in the UK for less than 12 months in the last 3 years. We strongly encourage women to apply as CAPACITIE strives to achieve gender balance and promote women’s involvement in research.
