BirdLife Europe, in Brussels, is looking for a Marine Conservation Intern.
BirdLife International is a global Partnership of autonomous, national non-governmental conservation organisations, with a large grassroots membership, in 117 countries and territories. BirdLife works together as a Partnership to conserve wild birds, their habitats and global biodiversity, by working with people towards sustainability in the use of natural resources. BirdLife is the global authority on the status of bird species, has unparalleled technical expertise in bird and biodiversity assessment, and provides a global outreach through its national Partners and decentralised Secretariat.
This is a 3 months paid position – starting day: as soon as possible, preferably first week of October.

Description of tasks to be undertaken by the trainee
The selected Trainee will work in the marine conservation team, giving support to work on a range of issues on the protection of wild bird species. The intern’s responsibilities will include:- Prepare management guidelines for MPA document;
- Support proposal of marine IBA extension project to private donor;
- Work with local partners to define urgent actions per country;
- Prepare documents and seek funding together with colleagues;
- Creation of databases;
- Take notes and prepare reports.
Profile of Trainee
Qualification:
Educational Qualifications/Vocational Training
- At least a relevant Bachelor’s Degree in biology or related disciplines with knowledge of environmental issues;
- Knowledge of seabird ecology;
- Basic knowledge of the ecology of the threatened seabird species in Europe;
- High levels of flexibility, dedication and sense of responsibility;
- Well organized and with attention to detail;
- Previous experience designing and producing communication materials.
Personal and Social Skills
Good team work skills, ability to work independently and take initiatives. Well-developed social skills. Outgoing and communicative. Ability to work in an International environment.Language Skills
Very good written English. Spanish highly desirable. Other EU languages will be an asset.Information Technology (IT) Skills
Perfect command of Microsoft Office package and main web-based applications, familiar with Arc-Gis software.Applications:
