Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) is funding PhD/ Postdoctoral Fellowship
position at Leibniz Institute for Natural Product Research and
Infection Biology–Hans Knöll Institute in Germany. The duration of PhD
position is three years and postdoctoral fellow position is two years in
the field of immunobiology and immune evasion of fungal pathogens.
Applicants must have a Master’s/PhD degree in the life sciences and a
strong interest in immunobiology, innate immunity and microbiology.
About Scholarship: The aim of the studies: Candida albicans is a human pathogenic fungus that can cause systemic infections leading to life threatening conditions. The immune and complement evasion mechanisms of Candida albicans that promote infection and systemic candidiasis are in the focus of the two research projects. The successful candidates will work on the strategies how Candida albicans modulates and dampens the functions of immune cells, particularly macrophages and T cells. The research is conducted using biochemical, molecular and immunobiological methodes including imaging, gene expression profiling as well as recombinant protein expression and functional cell activation assays. We offer: The successful candidates will work at the HKI Department of Infection Biology (Prof. Dr. Peter F. Zipfel and PD Dr. Christine Skerka). The department is integrated in the outstanding scientific environment of the Beutenberg Campus, Jena, providing state of the art facilities and highly integrative network of several departments and science groups. We offer two challenging scientific projects and provide excellent technical facilities in combination with interaction and collaborations with international research groups in Europe and abroad.
Study: The fellowship is awarded in the field of immunobiology and immune evasion of fungal pathogens.
Course Level: PhD/Postdoctoral fellowship position is open for undertaking a research project in Germany.
Scholarship by: Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG)
Location: Germany
Eligibility: We expect a Master’s / PhD degree in the life sciences (e.g. biology, biochemistry, cell biology, microbiology, immunology or related fields) and a strong interest in immunobiology, innate immunity and microbiology. The applicants should be able to perform independent as well as team-oriented work.
Scholarship Open for: Applicants of Germany are eligible for this PhD /Postdoctoral Fellowship position.
Duration: PhD position is offered for three years initially and a Postdoctoral fellow position is offered for two years.
