GMFUS Paid Trainee Brussels Forum 2015 The German Marshall Fund of the United States

The German Marshall Fund of the United States (GMF) strengthens transatlantic cooperation on regional, national, and global challenges and opportunities in the spirit of the Marshall Plan.
GMF does this by supporting individuals and institutions working in the transatlantic sphere, by convening leaders and members of the policy and business communities, by contributing research and analysis on transatlantic topics, and by providing exchange opportunities to foster renewed commitment to the transatlantic relationship.
In addition, GMF supports a number of initiatives to strengthen democracies. Founded in 1972 as a non-partisan, non-profit organization through a gift from Germany as a permanent memorial to Marshall Plan assistance, GMF maintains a strong presence on both sides of the Atlantic. In addition to its headquarters in Washington, D.C., GMF has offices in Berlin, Paris, Brussels, Belgrade, Ankara, Bucharest, Warsaw, and Tunis. GMF also has smaller representations in Bratislava, Turin, and Stockholm.

GMF‘s Brussels office seeks a trainee to work on Brussels Forum, GMF’s annual flagship event that brings together 400 high-level international participants from the world of politics, business, media and ideas.
The trainee working on Brussels Forum will work closely with senior GMF staff to provide research, logistical and administrative support. The paid traineeship is a unique opportunity to be in close contact with the senior international policy community. Trainees can also benefit from the Brussels environment and attend various EU related events. The trainee will be working with a new database system and coordinating participant registrations; GMF will therefore provide him/her with a database training. This traineeship is a paid opportunity in the Brussels Office of GMF.

Key Areas of Responsibility:
• Acting as the internal point of contact for GMF staff and coordinating all external communication with Brussels Forum participants;
• Conducting research on speakers and assisting GMF staff in all other operational preparations regarding Brussels Forum; and
• Maintaining and updating the registration database system; and
• Assisting with administrative and logistical duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Requirements:
• Fluency in English. Second language skills in French, Dutch or a third European language desired, but not required.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook) is essential.
• Flexibility to multi-task, have an eye for detail, ability to perform under tight deadlines and work independently.
• Experience in political event management is a plus.
• Strong interest in transatlantic policy issues.
• Good interpersonal skills and ability to work in a multicultural environment.

Start and Length of Traineeship
Preferred starting date: Early September 2014
Preferred length of internship: 8 months
