We are looking for intern applicants to start after the New Year. The internships last a minimum of 16 weeks, are full-time and are based in New York. Compensation is $700 per week.
Interns will be part of a team that focuses on doing smart, quick pieces riffing off the news. As part of that team, interns will primarily write and report their own pieces.
Here are a few examples of the kind of explainers and hard-hitting pieces we do. And here’s an article from Nieman Lab about our approach.
Interns at ProPublica have gone on to work at The New York Times, Bloomberg, NPR, Center for Public Integrity and the Chicago Tribune.
If you would like to apply, please send an email to internships@propublica.org with your resume and a note explaining why you’d be a good fit. Also, please include no more than three clips. One should be a blog post that ideally pulls together others’ stories and adds a bit of value. (If you don’t have an appropriate post, please write a sample one, along the lines of the pieces we’ve done above.) Applicants should also have prior journalism experience.
Your application will come into the inbox of several staff members, so there is no need to address it to a specific person.
