2013 Masayuki Dokiya Symposium Fund Grants, Japan

The Dokiya Symposium Fund is a travel assistance valued up to $600.00. It was Established in 2004 for assisting young attendees for travel to symposia of interest to the late Masayuki Dokiya.

Description
In 2004, Mrs. Yukiko Dokiya and family, in memory of Masayuki Dokiya, created the Dokiya Symposium Fund to provide travel and registration support to young investigators in fields of interest to the late Dr. Dokiya. Particularly, it aims at supporting young researchers in attending international symposium. The total gift is $92,575 and is to be spent within a ten-year period. The 2004 Joint International Meeting of The Electrochemical Society and The Electrochemical Society of Japan was the first meeting to take advantage of this fund.

The fields of interest to the late Dr. Dokiya are matched, for example, in the following symposia:

  • Solid Oxide Fuel Cells Symposia
  • International Conferences on Solid State Ionics
  • Ionic and Mixed Conducting Ceramics
  • High Temperature Corrosion and Materials Chemistry
  • High Temperature Materials Chemistry
  • Solid State Ionic Devices

Eligibility
Funding is available to young (less than 30 years old) attendees irrespective of nationality. Individuals must be attending High Temperature Materials Division sponsored or co-sponsored symposia as part of ECS biannual meetings, other related solid state ionics meetings (e.g. International Conferences on Solid State Ionics), or the SOFC International Symposium held biennially. Funding is limited to $600.00 per individual.

Application Procedure
Meeting organizers should contact The Electrochemical Society at least two months prior to the meeting’s advanced registration deadline with the applicant name, paper title being presented, meeting and/or symposium, applicant address, and applicant age of each individual applying for support.

The Electrochemical Society will forward all requests to the Dokiya Symposium Fund administrators at least six weeks prior to the meeting. Applicants will be notified of their status at least one month prior to the meeting. Registration waivers and/or travel grant checks will be available for pick up at the advance registration area of the meeting.

Submission Deadline
  • Call for nominations: six months prior to the meeting’s advanced registration deadline
  • Nomination deadline: two months prior to meeting’s advanced registration deadline
