Foreign National Student Internship Program of US Consulate General Sydney in Australia, 2013/14

The U.S. Consulate General Sydney is offering internship program for non-American undergraduate students who have the right to work in Australia. Only students who are able to receive academic credit for completing the internship are eligible to apply. This program will run during the 2013-2014 Australian summer holidays.
Field of Internship: The internship will provide the students with a valuable educational and practical experience by assisting the U.S. Consulate General in accomplishing its mission goals. In the long term, this program aims to establish, promote and maintain relationships between young Australians and Americans as they become leaders in their respective countries. Course Level: Internship Internship Provider: U.S. Consulate General Sydney Internship can be taken at: Australia (The program is designed to allow students who are non-U.S. citizens to intern at U.S. Missions abroad).
Eligibility: -The Foreign National Student Internship Program is for non-U.S. Citizens only.
-Any non-U.S. citizen who is enrolled at a local Australian university and meets the selection criteria is eligible to apply for the program.
-Must be able to work as a volunteer, full time from December 2, 2013 – December 6, 2013 and from January 6, 2014 – February 14, 2014.
-Must be a non-U.S. citizen and have the right to work in Australia.
-Must be over 18 years of age.
-Must be in good academic standing with their university (i.e. are currently not required to show cause for poor academic performance).
-Must have private medical insurance, at least for the duration of the internship.
-Must be returning to university studies after completion of the internship
Note: You are eligible to apply for the Consulate’s internship program if you have not yet completed your enrollment or are waiting to hear the outcome of your application for graduate studies. However, if selected for an internship, you must provide proof that you have registered, or have been accepted for enrollment for studies in the semester immediately following the internship.

Internship Description: The U.S. Consulate General Sydney is looking for non-American undergraduate students attending local universities to experience working alongside the Consulate’s American and Australian employees as they work on the day-to-day business, political, media, and organizational issues of the United States and Australia. This program will run during the 2013-2014 Australian summer holidays. The internship will provide the students with a valuable educational and practical experience by assisting the U.S. Consulate General in accomplishing its mission goals. In the long term, this program aims to establish, promote and maintain relationships between young Australians and Americans as they become leaders in their respective countries.

Tenure of award: The internship will occur over a period of eight weeks. There will be a one week orientation followed by an additional seven weeks. During the internship, interns are expected to work a 40-hour week.
Value: Only students who are able to receive academic credit for completing the internship are eligible to apply. All participants will receive a Certificate of Participation. A letter of successful completion of the internship from the U.S. Consulate will also be provided.
How to Apply: Applications should be sent via post or by e-mail. To complete your application you will need to submit the following documents:
- Completed ‘2013-2014 Foreign Nation Student Internship application form’.
-A resume of no longer than two pages.
-An academic transcript (an online version of your transcript is sufficient; however, it must show your course history to date and final marks).
-A statement of interest of no more than 500 words that describes your objectives and motivations in seeking an internship with the U.S. Consulate General Sydney.  Explain how the academic courses you have taken, and other personal experiences you have had, relate to the Internship Program.
