Description
The Studienkolleg zu Berlin aims to impart young European leaders with important knowledge about the aims and values of Europe for their future work in science, economics, politics, culture and administration. It offers participants the chance to experience Europe’s diversity in detail and a unique environment for investigating European questions. The Studienkolleg invites 30 particularly gifted students of all disciplines coming from all over Europe to Berlin every year. They continue their studies there and participate in a special Kolleg programme composed of weekly evening events, seminars and a project on current questions of European union. Up to twenty places are allocated for students from Europe (other than Germany). The language used at the Kolleg is German. The Studienkolleg is a joint initiative of the German National Academic Foundation (Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes) and the Non-Profit Hertie Foundation (Gemeinnützige Hertie-Stiftung).The Kolleg programme is aimed at particularly gifted students of all disciplines from all over Europe, who are registered at a university in Berlin or Brandenburg during the year at the Kolleg.
Scholarship
- Monthly grant, irrespective of parents, amounting to 650.00 EUR
- Single project allowance of up to 400.00 EUR to support project work and travel
- For non-German Kolleg participants: single mobility allowance of 1,000.00 EUR
- The programme and administration costs of the Kolleg are borne by the 2 supporting foundations.
- Sponsorship status in the 2 supporting foundations during the year at the Kolleg with access to their offers, subsequent alumni status
Eligibility
Application Requirements:- Academic course of study (all subject areas)
- Completed stage I studies (or at least 4 semesters of a subject)
- Maximum age 28 years
- Excellent academic achievements
- Pronounced interest in European issues
- Ability to work in a team and willingness to carry out intensive project work
- Social commitment
- All applicants are required to find a place to study in Berlin or Brandenburg independently.
- EU member nationals; exceptions may be possible for citizens of other European states
- Good knowledge of German as well as another European language (written and spoken)
- Application on explicit proposal by a cooperation partner of the foundations inside or outside Germany; a further letter of recommendation from an established academic has to be enclosed
- Self-assessment is possible, provided 2 letters of recommendation from established academics are enclosed
