Long-Term Danish Government Scholarships 2012/13

Description

The Danish Government Scholarships under the Cultural Agreements are aimed at highly qualified exchange students and young research scientists wishing to immerse themselves in studies of the Danish language and culture or other fields of study related to Denmark.

Eligibility

Scholarships are offered to exchange students and young research scientists from higher education institutions in the following countries:

• 19 EU-countries: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovak Republic, Spain, and the Netherlands
• Iceland, Switzerland, Serbia and Turkey
• Non-European countries: China, Japan, Israel, Egypt and Russia

Scholarships are only available to master’s and PhD-level students and young research scientists. However, bachelor’s degree students wishing to study Danish language and literature can also apply if they have studied the Danish language for two years.
Scholarships are only offered to students enrolled in full-degree studies at higher education institutions in the countries listed above. Ph.D. students and researchers must likewise be employed at, or affiliated with, higher education institutions in the abovementioned countries.
Applications from candidates affiliated with higher education institutions in countries other than those listed will not be taken into consideration.

Application

In the selection process, the Danish Agency for Universities and Internationalisation will give priority to candidates:

• Who motivate their choice of a specific research programme or field of study through its relation to Danish language, culture or other Danish areas of expertise. Successful applicants will describe the Danish dimension in their choice of studies or research when applying in fields such as: design, music, architecture, welfare, environmental studies, etc.
• Who are nominated by a lecturer who teaches Danish in their home country. Applicants should include a reference from the lecturer in their application.
• Who study Danish or Scandinavian languages and literature.
• Who refer to an internationally acclaimed lecturer at the desired Danish host institution with whom they would like to study.
• Who have contacted the desired Danish host university and received an invitation from a lecturer to conduct studies or research there.
• Who study at a partner university or institution of the desired Danish host university

The deadline for applications for the Long-Term Scholarships under the Cultural Agreements Programme for the academic year 2012/2013 is February 28, 2012.

All documents should be translated into English and should be certified. Please do not staple, paper clip, or in any way attach documents to each other.
Required documents to be enclosed in applications 

• Curriculum vitae signed and dated by the applicant.
• Translated and certified copies of the applicant’s diplomas.
• Detailed programme for study/research period in Denmark (ie. courses the applicant plans to attend or research projects he/she plans to conduct).
• Certificate of proficiency in English.

Please note: Some universities have other requirements regarding proof of proficiency in English, such as the TOEFL test, IELTS test, or comparable tests. Ask the Danish university where you wish to study about requirements and enclose the applicable documentation in your application. The Certificate of Proficiency in English, TOEFL test and/or IELTS test should be filled out and signed by the relevant authority or language school at the institution in your home country.
Optional documentation which may be enclosed in applications

• Letter of invitation or admission from the requested higher education institution in Denmark.
• Letter of recommendation from a lecturer who teaches you Danish at your home university.
• Letter of recommendation and/or 2 references (name, telephone number, and e-mail)
