Program Description
1. Introduction: Motivation and Creativity
After an introduction to how graffiti art has evolved into design over the past 40 years, the artists will briefly describe their personal experience, from the birth of their artistic passion all the way to the creation of their professional reality. Truly Design experience in volunteer will be shared to bring forth an example of the social efforts made through mural art and volunteer work.
2. Technical introduction
Participants will be shown the main techniques required to complete the objective of realizing a mural painting. This will mainly involve acrylic paint, and, if supplies are not a problem, acrylic markers, spray-paint and stencilling.
3. Mural painting
The theme for the mural will be “An artistic encounter between Europe and China”. Volunteers will be asked to help out by colouring, outlining parts of the painting, and coming up with creative solutions to fill in assigned spaces within the mural. The project will be based on Chinese writing: the idea is to create a slogan/proverb/quote on the theme of the EU-China Year of Youth and the European Year of Volunteering and to play with the multiple meanings of the ideograms
All artistic languages are welcome: the encounter between Chinese and European art will become the true lead role in creating a new joint code which will include a European technical approach applied on a designed inspired by Chinese art.
