Intern - EU Policy & Resource Mobilization Support

BACKGROUND
The IUCN European Regional Office in Brussels provides global services to the organization and vital linkages for IUCN (and its Members, National Committees, scientific Commissions and the global Secretariat) to key EU institutions and other public and private actors. The principal focus of the IUCN Office in Brussels is policy influencing and fundraising at the EU level.http://www.iucn.org/european_union
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
IUCN is looking for a highly motivated intern for a period of 6 months. Focus of the internship will be on assisting in our efforts to identify potential EU funding for the IUCN global network as well as to support our EU policy activities. Some of the specific tasks include:
Conduct research on EU policies and processes related to nature conservation and sustainable development (eg search for upcoming events & policy calendars, research to background information, EC consultations etc.);
Assisting in exploring EU funding instruments (to be specified during the internship);
Assisting in the development and circulation of the “Funding EUpdate newsletter ;
Attending meetings and conferences and report on the outcomes;
Assisting in interactions with the European Parliament and European Commission;
Providing a range of administrative support functions on a day-to-day basis.
What we offer
The internship provides a challenging and interesting opportunity to work in a dynamic international organization and to gain work experience in the field of EU nature conservation policies and funding instruments. The internship takes place without financial remuneration but a daily allowance for meals as well as a monthly public transport ticket will be reimbursed. Preferred starting date of the internship is 1 December or 4 January 2015, depending on availability of the selected candidate and in mutual agreement with the supervisor(s).
REQUIREMENTS
Affinity with the vision and mission of IUCN  
A keen interest in and basic understanding of multilateral environmental agreements and EU nature conservation policies  
Good knowledge of EU institutional functioning and decision-making process  
Having a University degree or studying towards one  
Oral and written fluency in English; good command of French or Spanish is an asset  
Solid knowledge of Microsoft Office applications  
Strong organizational skills, i.e. ability to work with short deadlines and multiple simultaneous tasks  
Highly motivated to learn and develop new skills  
EU work permit
