Europe and Central Asia Programme Internship

ARTICLE 19 is looking for an intern with a demonstrated interest in, and knowledge of, the Eurasia region, to join the Europe and Central Asia Programme. The internship is an opportunity for the selected candidate to gain experience working in an international non-governmental organisation and gain exposure to freedom of expression (FOE) issues. Internships are based in ARTICLE 19’s London Office; working hours and duration of the internship are flexible, however preference will be given to candidates able to commit to 3 days per week, for at least 3 months.

The position is voluntary; however, ARTICLE 19 will provide reimbursement to a total value of £700 monthly - for the following:

• Travel, including to and from the place of volunteering;

• Meals & Refreshments;

• Care of Dependants, including children;

• Administration costs such as postage, phone calls and stationary

Requirements:

• A bachelor’s degree achieved (or expected to be achieved) in international relations, law, journalism, development studies, politics, or another related field. 

• Demonstrated interest in, and knowledge of, political and economic developments in the Eurasia region.

• Understanding of, and a strong interest in, human rights issues (preferably including freedom of expression) in the Eurasia region, particularly in the former Soviet states.

• Excellent command of English, plus another regional language (candidates with fluent Russian will be given preference; however, we are also particularly interested in Azerbaijani, Turkish and Ukrainian). 

• Strong analytical skills, and excellent written and spoken communication skills.

• Administrative experience and an ability to manage time effectively.

• Foreign nationals must already have the right to work in the UK.

Key tasks will include:

• Daily research on events and trends related to freedom of expression and information in the Eurasia region.

• Providing administrative and research support to current Europe and Central Asia Programme projects.

• Researching and drafting statements and letters for ongoing or ad hoc campaigns and advocacy.

• Maintaining ARTICLE 19’s social media presence.

• Providing assistance in developing fundraising proposals, as requested.
