The University of British Columbia offers 4-8 months in duration
unpaid internship for undergraduate faculty of arts students to develop
their skills and expand their resume. The Faculty of Arts undergraduate
student at the UBC Vancouver campus is selected for professional
placements in primarily non-profit organizations and social
enterprises. International students must have an off-campus work permit
before beginning their internship.

Eligibility: -Be able to personally and financially commit to 8-12 hours/week during the length of the internship (4-8 months) – exact hours will depend on each internship opportunity

-Be in the Faculty of Arts
-Have completed the first-year English requirement or the Writing component of the Writing and Research requirement
-Be in good academic standing
-International students must also have a valid off-campus work permit.

Internship Description: Students must apply to get into the program by submitting an application form (which includes a statement of intern) and resume. Students are screened and evaluated based on the quality of their resume and the content in their application form. Student must demonstrate that they have considered the program and that they have reflected upon why the program will benefit them. Selected students are invited to attend a program group interview – groups have a total of 6-10 students. Students are assessed and marked based on program core competencies and the ability to represent UBC in the community. Acceptance into the program is based on the application and interview performance. The Orientation session is mandatory for students to attend before they are given access to apply for internships. Each Orientation session is 3 hours in length. Topics covered in this session include program requirements, program assignments, and internship tips and strategies (ie. Formatting your resume and cover letter, job search skills, interview skils, online etiquette, Linkedin, etc.) You will get the chance to network with other students and gain practical experience answering interview questions and receive tips on how to make your resume stand out.

Internship Application Deadline: The application deadline for the Winter 2014 session is October 11, 2013. Internships will start in January and go until April/May or longer.
Note: International students must have an off-campus work permit before beginning their internship. This permit is different from a Co-op work permit. Students will not receive academic credit from UBC for this program, so they are not eligible for a Co-op/Internship permit.
