Amnesty International’s European Institutions Office is looking for a trainee to help the press officer deliver EIO’s media strategy. The successful candidate will join our team in Brussels from mid-September 2013 for ten months.

Traineeship Title: Media & communications assistant
Reports to: Media & Communications Officer (press officer)
Duration: Ten months (mid-September 2013 to mid-July 2014)

TASKS INCLUDE

- Helping press officer prepare material targeting media. Includes press releases, opinion pieces, letters;
- Monitoring EU media developments;
- Arranging press conferences, interviews and other media contact events;
- Contributing to content and presentation of EIO website, managing social media;
- Updating EIO media contacts database.
- Producing media calendar;
- Sending daily updates on key EU events and media items to colleagues;
- Helping press officer deliver in-house training;
- Helping press officer set up meetings;
- Contributing to content and presentation of EIO website, managing social media;
- Updating contacts database;
- Helping with administrative tasks.
- General knowledge of international human rights;
- Previous communications experience an asset, especially in social media;
- Basic knowledge of EU and its media environment;
- Excellent (native-standard) writing ability in English. Fluency in at least one other EU language an asset;
- Excellent at communicating, networking, and getting on with people;
- Analytical and problem-solving skills;
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, setting priorities;
- Standard computer skills (knowledge of Windows, Word, Internet Explorer);
- Innovative;
- Able to communicate with diverse audiences;
- Capacity for taking initiative and meeting deadlines under pressure;
- Willing to contribute to various routine tasks.
