National Scholarship Programme for International Applicants in Estonia, 2015

Ministry of Education and Research of the Republic of Estonia and Archimedes Foundation are inviting applications for National Scholarship Programme from foreign students and researchers of some countries. Scholarships at the first level of higher education and scholarships for Master’s and Doctoral study support exchange study or degree study (master’s and doctoral) at the Estonian institutions of higher education. Scholarships for summer and winter schools support participation in summer courses of Estonian language and culture organized by the Estonian institutions of higher education as well as in summer and winter schools related to the English-language curricula of degree study. Mobility grants for researchers and academic staff can be applied for research, scientific work, teaching, cooperation with colleagues etc. The application deadline is 24 April, 2015.
Study Subject(s): Scholarships at the first level of higher education are awarded for the studies in the areas related to Estonian language and culture. Scholarships for summer and winter schools are awarded for summer courses of Estonian language and culture as well as summer and winter schools related to the English-language curricula of degree study. Scholarships for Master’s and Doctoral study and mobility grants for researchers and academic staff are awarded in all disciplines.

Eligibility:
Scholarships at the first level of higher education and scholarships for Master’s and Doctoral study-The scholarship at the first level of higher education and the one for Master’s and Doctoral study (hereinafter also student scholarships) are intended to support the exchange study or degree study of international students at the Estonian institutions of higher education. The scholarship at the first level of higher education can be applied for only for the studies in the areas related to Estonian language and culture.
Scholarships for summer and winter schools-The payment of scholarships is intended to support participation in summer courses of Estonian language and culture organized by the Estonian institutions of higher education as well as in summer and winter schools related to the English-language curricula of degree study.
Mobility grants for researchers and academic staff-Mobility grants can be applied by the researchers and academic staff of the foreign institutions of higher education. The mobility grant can be applied for research, scientific work, teaching, cooperation with colleagues etc.
Scholarship Open for International Students: National Scholarship ProgrammeStudents from People’s Republic of China, Israel, Greece, Lithuania, Latvia, Poland, Denmark, Czech Republic, Turkey, United States of America, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Flanders, Brazil, Bulgaria, Philippines, Georgia, Spain, Croatia, India, Indonesia, Italy, Kazakhstan, Korea, Cyprus, Mexico, Moldova, Germany, Slovenia, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Tunisia, Ukraine, Hungary and Russia can apply for this National Scholarship Programme. Preference will be given to citizens of People’s Republic of China, Israel, Greece, Lithuania, Latvia, Poland, Denmark, Czech Republic, Turkey.
Scholarship Description: Ministry of Education and Research of the Republic of Estonia and Archimedes Foundation annually offer scholarships to foreign nationals, pursuant to bilateral intergovernmental or inter-ministerial agreements concluded with other countries. Pursuant to the agreements Estonia offers to the students and researchers of some countries scholarships and vice versa. Starting from the year 2015 the scholarships based on the international agreements are offered in the framework of the National Scholarship Programme for international students, researchers and academic staff. The types of scholarships are the following:
-Scholarships at the first level of higher education and scholarships for Master’s and Doctoral study: The scholarship at the first level of higher education and the one for Master’s and Doctoral study (hereinafter also student scholarships) are intended to support the exchange study or degree study of international students at the Estonian institutions of higher education. The scholarship at the first level of higher education can be applied for only for the studies in the areas related to Estonian language and culture.
-Scholarships for summer and winter schools: The payment of scholarships is intended to support participation in summer courses of Estonian language and culture organized by the Estonian institutions of higher education as well as in summer and winter schools related to the English-language curricula of degree study. The scholarship can be applied for by the students of Bachelor’s, Master’s and Doctoral studies studying in the foreign institutions of higher education who have been studying in the university at least one year by the time of application.
-Mobility grants for researchers and academic staff: Mobility grants can be applied by the researchers and academic staff of the foreign institutions of higher education.The mobility grant can be applied for research, scientific work, teaching, cooperation with colleagues etc.

Duration of award(s):
-The scholarship of exchange study is paid within the specified period, but maximum ten calendar months a year. The duration of one period of studies (grant period) should not be shorter than 30 days. The grant to be paid will be calculated according to the number of days of the grant period based on the rate of the relevant type of scholarship.
-The scholarship for degree study is paid for twelve calendar months each academic year during the nominal period of study, except the last academic year of the nominal period of study when the scholarship is paid for ten months. A scholarship is paid on condition that the scholarship recipient is studying full time and completes cumulatively at least 75% of the coursework required by the curriculum by the end of each academic year.
-Scholarships for summer and winter schools are available for a maximum of 28 days per secondment in a calendar year.
-Mobility grants for researchers and academic staff are divided into short-term (1-9 days) and long-term (10 days – 10 calendar months) mobility grants.
What does it cover?
-Scholarships at the first level of higher education and scholarships for Master’s and Doctoral study: 350 EUR per month for the undergraduate and graduate students and 422 EUR per month for doctoral students. Additional costs such as tuition fee, health insurance and other costs will not be compensated.
-Scholarships for summer and winter schools: The scholarship is used to reimburse up to 500 EUR of the course fee and accommodation costs of 25 EUR per day for a maximum of 28 days per secondment in a calendar year.The scholarship covers the course fee to the institution of higher education and accommodation costs of students for a maximum of 28 days per one secondment in a calendar year.
-Mobility grants for researchers and academic staff: Scholarship rate for short-term visit is 45 EUR per day and 422 EUR per month.
Selection Criteria: The applications are assessed considering the following: thoroughness of the motivation letter; quality of application: clear objectives, work plan, expected results etc.

How to Apply: The application including additional documents should be submitted in two ways: electronically and by mail. The signed application with the signed letter of recommendation will be forwarded by mail by 1 May.
