Research Assistant (Trainee) 6 month contract

Description

There is an opportunity for a (Trainee) Research Assistant to join our Europe team in our Brussels office initially for six months. Our team provides research, evaluation, impact assessment and technical assistance services to many Directorates Generals of the European Commission and EU agencies. We have in-depth expertise in EU policies that range from migration to the environment, employment to innovation, and justice to innovation.

As a Research Assistant you will be assisting with research and data collection, conducting qualitative and quantitative analysis and report writing. You will also contribute to our work in the field of evaluation of information and communication activities undertaken by European Commission (information services, communication campaigns, communication strategies etc.). You will have a strong interest in communication related research methods and a good knowledge of main research tools used. Furthermore, the ideal candidate will have a good understanding EU public policy in order to contribute effectively to assignments for the European Commission.
Basic Requirements:
Masters’ degree in a related discipline;
Around 2 years of professional experience;
Excellent written and spoken English;
Fluency in at least one other European language;
Interest in and understanding of qualitative and/or quantitative research methods - as proven by following a course focusing on research methods or having carried out research assignments;
Interest in public policy - ideally with knowledge of how the EU works - specialisation in specific policy areas would be beneficial.
Personal Qualities:
Excellent time management skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment;
High level of ability to perform tasks with minimum supervision;
Ability to work within multi-cultural, multi-disciplinary teams spread across several countries;
Sound research and business ethics, including the protection of proprietary and confidential information;
Ability to self-organise, prioritise and conduct research on multiple projects under tight deadlines.
