Description
IMT (Institutions, Markets, Technologies) Institute for
Advanced Studies is located in Lucca, Italy. IMT Institute
for Advanced Studies Lucca is a public graduate school and research institute
that focuses on the analysis of economic, societal, technological and cultural
systems.
Applications are now being accepted for PhD students
in Analysis and Management of Cultural Heritage (AMCH) for
the 2015/16 PhD program at IMT Institute for Advanced Studies
Lucca.
Highly motivated candidates are invited to apply for one of
the 35 fully-funded scholarships of the three-year doctoral program,
which is articulated in curricula. The 3 curricula currently offered are
field-specific, although in many instances they share a common scientific
background.
The AMCH curriculum proposes courses in Management of
Cultural Heritage and Cultural Institutions, European and International
Legislation on Cultural Heritage and Landscape, Art History, Museology,
Technologies applied to the valorization of Cultural Heritage. Both research
oriented and practice oriented courses constitute the program, which aims at
educating qualified professionals operating in the concrete field of cultural
management and academics.
Who can apply?
Admission to IMT's PhD program is competitive on an
international level, with evaluation mainly focusing on past academic
performance (grades) and scientific relevance to the selected curricula.
First and foremost, however, certain basic formal requirements must be met
before candidates are eligible to apply. Namely, applicants must have completed
and obtained a degree equivalent to at least 4 years of university studies.
(Students in their final year of undergraduate study may be admitted on the
condition that their bachelor's degree is awarded before they enroll at IMT.)
Applications are open to candidates without regard to
nationality, age, gender or religion. Proficiency in English is compulsory as
research and teaching are conducted in English. No knowledge of Italian is
requested.
Scholarship
PhD students at IMT enjoy the following benefits and
services:
Grants
All students admitted to the PhD program are not required to
pay tuition fees. A number of grants are available to support the participation
to the program (see exact number in the current call. Additional grants may
become available after the launch of the call). Grants are assigned to admitted
students according to the final ranking determined by the evaluation process.
The grant is €13,638.47 per year (≅ €12,378.30 net/year), and can be
increased by 50% during the periods spent abroad for study and research (from 2
to 9 months).
Accommodation
All students who are granted a scholarship have free
accommodation in shared double rooms on campus residential facilities (with the
exception of students whose permanent residence is within 30km of IMT)
Canteen
All PhD students at IMT are offered free meals (lunch and
dinner) at the school canteen located on campus. Lunch and dinner are served
each day, Monday through Sunday, for the entire academic year. Vegetarian menus
or take-away meals are available on request through the online canteen
reservation system.
Campus
Advanced training and research at IMT are fully integrated
thanks to the high quality of its services and underlying scientific
infrastructure. All IMT structures are located in the historical center of
Lucca and make up an integrated campus for advanced studies and research.

Application
Applications for the PhD Program can only be submitted
electronically. Applicants must fill out the online application form (registration
required), providing personal data and attaching the required documents. Basic
instructions for the submission procedure will be provided after registration.
Applications cannot be submitted after the deadline.
Each applicant must select the desired curriculum for which
they wish to apply. Candidates can also apply to more than one curriculum; in
this case, without changing the basic personal information, the
"education" section can be varied in accordance with each curriculum.
Data included in the application
form can be modified and updated until the final submission. No further
modifications are generally possible after the final submission. In exceptional
circumstances, the candidate should contact the PhD office. phdapplications@imtlucca.it
Due to high traffic near the call closure,
applicants are encouraged to submit their application well in advance of
the deadline to avoid last-minute congestion in the online application
procedure!
