Economic and Social Research Council offers PhD Studentship
in Education at at the Moray House School of Education in the
University of Edinburgh. The studentship is awarded for three year. The
students of UK/EU can apply for this studentship. The studentship will
start in September 2013 and will include an annual maintenance payment
of £12,000 and full-time fees for UK/EU candidates and a research
allowance of £700.
About Scholarship: This fully funded PhD studentship in Education is available for here at the Moray House School of Education in the University of Edinburgh. This studentship will be attached to the Education and Social Stratification research strand of the Applied Quantitative Methods Network (AQMeN), a multi-disciplinary Research Centre composed of academics from ten collaborating Universities and Research Organisations in the UK and abroad. The successful candidate will be supervised by Dr Cristina Iannelli and Professor Lindsay Paterson.
AQMeN is funded by the Economic and Social Research Council to develop a pioneering set of research projects which aims to improve our understanding of current social issues in the UK and provide policy makers and practitioners with robust independent research-based evidence. AQMeN has three primary strands of research: Crime and Victimisation (led by Professor Susan McVie, University of Edinburgh), Education and Social Stratification (led by Dr Cristina Iannelli, University of Edinburgh) and Urban Segmentation and Inequality (led by Professor Gwilym Pryce, University of Glasgow).

Eligibility: The competition is open to students who have completed (or expect to complete by the end of the current academic year) a Masters qualification in Education, Sociology, Economics, Social Policy or another relevant discipline (including Statistics).
Scholarship Open for: The students of UK/EU can apply for this studentship.
Duration: The student will be funded for three years of research on a topic of their choosing that fits broadly within the research themes.
Value: The studentship will start in September 2013 and will include an annual maintenance payment of £12,000 and full-time fees for UK/EU candidates and a research allowance of £700. In addition, provision will be made for the student to be provided with a computer and funding to attend relevant national and/or international conferences.
Selection criteria: Applications will be evaluated by members of the AQMeN research team and the best applicants (judged in terms of academic merit of the application) will be invited to interview at which they will be expected to elaborate on their research proposals.
