Principal’s Career Development PhD Scholarships in UK, 2016-2017

University of Edinburgh offers 45 Principal’s Career Development PhD scholarships for UK/EU and international students in the 2016-2017 academic session. Scholarships are available for pursuing PhD studies at University of Edinburgh.
University offers a number of general and subject-specific funding schemes. The aim of the scholarships is to attract the best and most motivated people to Edinburgh.
The University of Edinburgh is the sixth oldest university in the English-speaking world and one of Scotland’s ancient universities. The university’s mission is the creation, dissemination and curation of knowledge.
All students of every nationality are required to prove their English language competence. Even native-speakers of English must demonstrate that they meet our minimum language requirements to gain entry to the university. University accepts all of the English language qualifications for entry to the university, including IELTS qualifications from any IELTS test centre. Applicants who require an IELTS test as part of an application for degree-level studies may take this test at any IELTS centre.

Course Level: Scholarships are available for pursuing PhD studies at University of Edinburgh.
Study Subject: Scholarships are offered over different departments across the University, all offering a diverse range of courses.
Scholarship Award: Each scholarship covers the UK/EU rate of tuition fee as well as a stipend of £14,000. Subject to satisfactory progress, the scholarships are awarded for three years.

Eligibility: The specific requirements are as follows:
-The awards are open to UK, EU and overseas students applying to start their first year of study for a research degree in 2016-2017. Award applicants should contact the School with whom they intend to study before applying for the award to ascertain whether the funding is available for the discipline involved.
-Applicants must have already applied for admission to a full-time PhD research programme of study at the University. Applicants intending to study a part-time PhD research programme will only be considered for the scholarship if they have the approval of the School they wish to study with.
-Candidates are required to have good English Language skills with scholarship applicants normally requiring a minimum IELTS of 7.0 achieved within the past two years. Please note that scholarship application will not be considered if student’s IELTS results are not known to the University.
-Please also note that if they have applied for consecutive registration where they will start their master’s programme of study in 2016 and PhD the following year in 2017, that they will not be eligible to apply for a Principal’s Career Development Scholarship in 2016. Principal’s awards cannot be held concurrently with fully-funded scholarships but can be held with partial awards such as the Edinburgh Global Research Scholarships.
Nationality: UK/EU and international students can apply for these PhD scholarships.
College Admission Requirement
Entrance Requirement: Applicants must be of outstanding academic merit and research potential. Candidates must have, or expect to obtain, a UK first class or 2:1 honours degree at undergraduate level or the international equivalent. Other factors such as financial status, nationality and the proposed field of study are not taken into account. The University will not generally consider candidates who have already obtained a PhD, or formal equivalent, as a result of direct research training.
Test Requirement: No

Supporting Material: Whilst completing this application, applicant will be asked to provide the following:
– Their personal details;
-Details of any degrees tehy hold or expect to hold;
– Any relevant details from their employment or training history;
– Details of journal articles they have had published;
– The topic of their proposed research;
– A research outline of no more than 300 words;
– A personal statement of no more than 300 words;
– Details of any other scholarships or awards they hold or have held.
How to Apply: Eligible applicants should complete an online scholarship application. Please note that applicants will not be able to access the online application form unless they have applied for admission to the University of Edinburgh and have full EASE authentication.
Application Deadline: All applications must be submitted no later than 12th February 2016.
