Description

Two positions as doctoral research fellows in the field of Internet Governance are available at the Faculty of Law, Department of Private Law at University of Oslo.

Two positions as PhD research fellows are available, each for three years, to undertake research as part of the project “Security in Internet Governance and Networks: Analysing the Law” (SIGNAL). The project is funded by the Norwegian Research Council and UNINETT Norid AS. The appointees will work as part of a team at the Norwegian Research Centre for Computers and Law, University of Oslo, in collaboration with an interdisciplinary group of experts from other universities.

The period for each fellowship may be extended up to four (4) years, with teaching.

Supervision duties and research assistance constituting 25 % of the workload. A prerequisite for such an extension is that the appointee meets the current teaching needs of the Faculty of Law.

Eligibility

Fellows should meet the following criteria in order to be eligible:

Applicants must hold a Norwegian master degree in law or its equivalent. Other education at the same level may be accepted, based on an assessment in each case, if the education is highly relevant to the subject matter and remit of the SIGNAL project.

Admission to the PhD program requires the candidate to have excellent grades;

The project language is English and the applicants should, therefore, have an excellent command of the English language, written and spoken;

As the project leader will define more precisely the research agendas of the doctoral research fellows, applicants do not need to submit an extensive project proposal;

In assessing the applications, special emphasis will be placed on the applicants’ assume academic and personal ability to complete their parts of the project within the given time frame;

A good command of a Scandinavian language is also an advantage, though not a condition.

International Postgraduate Research Scholarships at University of Adelaide in Australia, 2016

The University of Adelaide is pleased to offer international postgraduate research scholarships in 2016–2017 academic session. Scholarships will be awarded to undertake postgraduate researchprogram in any discipline.

Scholarship Award: The IPRS provides:

Course tuition fees for two years for a masters degree by Research and three years for a Doctoral research degree (an extension is possible for doctoral programs only);

All successful IPRS applicants will also receive an Australian Postgraduate Award (APA) which provides an annual living allowance of $25,849 in 2015 for the normal duration of the program; and

For Postgraduate Research (Subclass 574) visa holders, the award provides compulsory standard Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) Worldcare policy for the student and their spouse and dependents (if any) for the standard duration of the student visa.  It does not cover the additional 6-month extended student visa period post thesis submission. If the award holder does not hold a subclass 574 visa then he/she is responsible for the cost of health insurance.

Note. The scholarship does not cover student visa application fees.

Scholarship can be taken in Australia

Eligibility: The selection and ranking of applicants within the University of Adelaide is undertaken by the Graduate Scholarships Committee, using the criteria of academic merit and research potential. Scholarships in this program have the following conditions:

In order to be eligible applicants are required to have successfully completed at least the equivalent of an Australian First Class Honours degree (this is a four-year degree with a major research project in the final year). All qualifying programs of study must be successfully completed.

Scholarships will be awarded on academic merit and research potential. Extra-curricular achievements are not considered.

International applicants must not hold a research qualification regarded by the University of Adelaide to be equivalent to an Australian Research Doctorate degree or, if undertaking a Research Masters degree, not hold a research qualification regarded by the University of Adelaide to be equivalent to or higher than an Australian Research Masters degree.

International applicants who have not provided evidence of their meeting the minimum English language proficiency requirements for direct entry by the scholarship closing date, or who have completed a Pre-Enrolment English Program to meet the entry requirements for the intended program of study, are not eligible.

IPRS scholarships can only be awarded to applicants applying to study in an area of university research strength.

Citizens and Permanent Residents of Australia, and citizens of New Zealand are ineligible.

Those undertaking research via remote candidature is ineligible.

Candidates are required to enrol in the University of Adelaide as ‘international students’ and must maintain ‘international student’ status for the duration of their enrolment in the university.

International applicants are not eligible if they have already commenced the degree for which they are seeking an award unless they can establish that they were unable to apply in the previous round.

To be eligible for an IPRS scholarship an applicant must not have held an AusAID scholarship within the 2 years prior to commencing the IPRS, and not be receiving a scholarship for which course tuition is a component under any other scholarship scheme to which the Commonwealth Government makes a substantial contribution.

College Admission Requirement

Entrance Requirement: International applicants from any country who have a First Class Honours result or equivalent, to support their study towards a Higher Degree by Research in areas of university research strength.

Test Requirement: No

English Language Requirements: The university’s preferred accredited English language tests are: IELTS, TOEFL, Pearson Test of English – Academic and CAE (Cambridge English: Advanced). Students without the required level of English will need to satisfactorily complete an intensive program of English language before being admitted to the University of Adelaide. UNESCO is Accepting Application for Internship Positions

The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) is accepting applications for two internship positions for the second half of 2016. The project gears towards preservation and dissemination of culture, heritage and history of Chagga people, who inhabit an area within a major UNESCO World Heritage site Mount Kilimanjaro; and Maasai living in Ngorongoro, also a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Each fieldwork site Kilimanjaro and Ngorongoro Conservation Area will be researched by two cultural anthropologists. The teams will consist of an international graduate student and a Tanzanian national graduate student. The project is carried out in cooperation with the Department of Sociology of the University of Dar es Salaam.

Objectives:

• Documentation of Chagga intangible heritage and cultural elements
• Documentation of Maasai intangible heritage and cultural elements

Eligibility:

Successful applicant has a background in cultural anthropology holding BA or MA degree.

She/he has an experience with fieldwork preferably in the context of a global South country.

She/he is experienced in translating field data into quality reports, and has excellent interpersonal skills. 

The team will be responsible for conducting interviews among the community members, data collection, interpretation, analysis.

Proficiency in English, knowledge of Swahili is an asset

Benefits:

Interns do not receive financial remuneration, however, UNESCO offers a lump sum of 500 USD per researcher to facilitate transport within the locality. The researcher upon the successful delivery and evaluation of the final report receives UNESCO internship certificate.

The Project Development Intern’s tasks will focus on but are not limited to:

Ensuring reporting from in a timely and quality manner. Standard ACTED reporting tools will be used but the PDI is also expected to liaise with programme and project managers, the monitoring and evaluation department, other departments within ACTED, and possible other actors to ensure all data provided is accurate and comprehensive;

Assist the project development officer and manager in developing project proposals. The PDI will gather information from field teams, which feeds into the proposal;

Drafting internal and external communication that involves the base. This includes minute taking at meetings, gathering flash news and writing success stories for the ACTED website, development of ACTED fact sheets in preparation of donor visits, and addressing ad hoc donor requests as assigned by the PDO or PDM;

Ad hoc tasks as assigned by PDM or AC such as but not limited to updating the server, filing, writing research reports, drafting memos’s, and/ or making presentations.

Eligibility

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in international development studies, international relations, human rights, WASH, migration, agriculture, food security, gender studies, or a related field;

Fluent English (written and spoken), excellent writing and communication skills;

Prior work experience with an INGO in an emergency setting preferred;

Ability to work under pressure in a high-pace environment;

Good organisational and prioritisation skills;
