Intern Analyst (Paid) Istanbul

Background
ARK Group DMCC is a stabilisation, development and conflict transformation consultancy that provide research-informed analysis and policy recommendations, as well as evidence-based interventions, in conflict-affected areas from the Palestinian camps of Lebanon and Yemen to Iraq and Syria on behalf of public and private sector clients. Working with and through local communities, we seek to understand and then mitigate the negative effects of conflict and instability to enhance community safety and promote human security, development and economic opportunity.
For the past six years, ARK has been at the forefront of the regional response to the Syrian conflict. Working for governmental donors, ARK has supported conflict-affected communities on the ground. Programmes have included sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) responses and launching the programme of life-saving support to Syria’s Civil Defence teams. We have a highly dynamic, capable, multinational team with offices in Dubai, Turkey, Lebanon, Jordan and Washington DC.
ARK is seeking expressions of interest from candidates with the right blend of academic, linguistic, geographical and thematic expertise who are interested in joining ARK’s dynamic team as an Istanbul-based research intern. ARK is committed where possible to offering full-time employment to interns on the completion of a successful internship and this has been without exception the case for the past three years.
Tasks and Activities
• Provide research for analytical reports supporting ARK programmes in Syria.
• Contribute to stabilisation and development network mapping, social media analysis, narrative and summary reports and ARK programming outputs, as well as thematic situational reports, and other products designed to capture and visualise data.
• Brief company management on political and security trends in the area of interest and as needed represent ARK at conferences and donor-implementer meetings.
• Support regular and ad hoc monitoring and analysis of events in Syria drawing on a range of open sources.
• Where required, aid in rapid translation between Arabic and English.
• Monitor impact of ARK projects, programmes and strategies through extensive online research in both Arabic and English.
• Design and produce independent research products using own initiative.
• Conduct verbal briefings on analytical outputs,
• Support ARK’s monitoring and evaluation teams, project teams, and business development team, as appropriate.
• Remain updated on events in the broader MENA region and analyse their implications for ongoing and future ARK programming and donor policy.
• Support the development of ARK’s Research and Analysis capability and the department’s relevance to the work of implementers, donors, think-tanks, and other institutions.
• Engage in rigorous professional conduct and creative enquiry, as well as the highest standards of research and analysis design, ethics, conduct and report writing.
• Support ARK’s Syria publications and social media strategy and delivery to ensure a range of audiences have access to ARK’s analytical outputs.
• Other relevant tasks as requested by the supervisor.
Experience
Essential
• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Middle East studies, Arabic language, political science, international affairs, history, sociology, or a related discipline.
• Strong and demonstrable research skills, particularly in Arabic language and in social media/open source.
• Fluent proficiency in Modern Standard Arabic and an Arabic Dialect.
• Strong English language writing skills.
• Detailed knowledge of political, governance and security dynamics related to the conflict in Syria.
• Familiarity with social media platforms and proficiency in open source research.
Desirable
• Advanced knowledge of qualitative and quantitative research methods and experience working on political issues related to the Middle East.
• Knowledge of, and experience with, Geographic Information Systems (GIS) is a plus.
• Knowledge of, and experience with, statistical analysis software (SPSS, STATA) and InDesign is a plus.

Turkish Government Research Fellowships for International Students, 2017-2018

Applications are inviting for Turkish Government Research Fellowship Programme for the academic year 2017-2018. Applicants who are citizen of countries other than turkey are eligible to apply for this fellowship program
Research Fellowship Programme was established with the aim of encouraging international researchers and academics to do using common researchers with the in-field-faculty members from our country and develop scientific interaction between researchers.
International students in Turkey, as well as the unique nature of a quality education, satisfy a deep-rooted history and a rich culture medium as well as the hospitable nature of the people and the historical value and economic living conditions, Turkey is one of the best choices for training.
Course Level: Fellowship is available to pursue research.
Study Subject: Fellowship aims to encourage international researchers and academics to work with Turkish academics on collaborative researchers in Turkey and contribute to the development of the international scientific interaction between researchers.
Scholarship Award: The fellowship monthly cost is 3,000 TL. The fellowship does not include transportation, accommodation, and health insurance. It is recommended that the researchers, before coming to Turkey, arrange an accommodation, if possible, at the halls of residence at the university they will carry out their research.

IF a study will be carried out on historical monuments and archaeological sites with non-public information, documents from institutions and organizations, having “Legal Permit” taken from a related governmental institution,

Entrance Requirements: Candidates must have completed their PhD studies or be at the dissertation stage.

Candidates who do not have the required documents will not be considered for the scholarship.

Education:

TÜBITAK Research Fellowship Programme for Foreign Citizens in Turkey, 2017

The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK) is offering a fellowship program for foreign citizens. Fellowships are available for international highly qualified Ph.D. students and young post-doctoral researchers to pursue their research in Turkey.
The program aims to promote Turkey’s scientific and technological collaboration with countries of the prospective researchers.
The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TÜBITAK) is the leading agency for management, funding, and conduct of research in Turkey.
Applicants who hold a Ph.D. degree in Turkey should have a GPA minimum of 3.50/4.00 in a Ph.D. program. Applicants from outside the home country will often need to meet specific English language/other language requirements in order to be able to study there.
Course Level: Fellowships are available for Ph.D. students and young postdoctoral researchers to pursue research at universities or research institutes in Turkey.
Study Subject(s): Fellowships are awarded in the field of Natural Sciences, Engineering and Technological Sciences, Medical Sciences, Agricultural Sciences, Social Sciences and Humanities.
Scholarship Award: Fellowship provides:
The maximum duration of the fellowship is 12 months.
A monthly stipend of 2,500 Turkish Liras.
Travel costs (round trip up to  2,250 TL) and Health insurance premiums (up to 2,250 TL)*. In the case of approval of TÜB?TAK Department of Science
Fellowships and Grant Programs (B?DEB) Steering Committee, travel costs and health insurance for the fellow may be partially covered.

Applicants should be non-Turkish citizens. Applicants who hold dual citizenship with Turkey are   not eligible to apply.

Applicants should certify that they have sufficient command of language to perform their research.
Applicants must be 35 years old or younger.
Applicants should be enrolled in a program in abroad for Ph.D. students.
Applicants who hold a Ph.D. degree in Turkey should have a GPA minimum of 3.50/4.00 in the Ph.D. program.
Nationality: Foreign citizens (non-Turkish citizens) can apply for the research fellowship program.

Project Development Internship at Acted, Turkey

Description
ACTED endeavors to respond to humanitarian crises and build resilience; promote inclusive and sustainable growth; co-construct effective governance and support the building of civil society worldwide by investing in people and their potential.
ACTED’s mission is to save lives and support people in meeting their needs in hard to reach areas. ACTED develops and implements programs that target the most vulnerable among-st populations that have suffered from conflict, natural disaster, or socio-economic hardship. ACTED’s approach looks beyond the immediate emergency towards opportunities for longer term livelihoods reconstruction and sustainable development.
The Project Development Intern’s tasks will focus on but are not limited to:
Ensuring reporting from in a timely and quality manner. Standard ACTED reporting tools will be used but the PDI is also expected to liaise with programme and project managers, the monitoring and evaluation department, other departments within ACTED, and possible other actors to ensure all data provided is accurate and comprehensive;
Assist the project development officer and manager in developing project proposals. The PDI will gather information from field teams, which feeds into the proposal;
Drafting internal and external communication that involves the base. This includes minute taking at meetings, gathering flash news and writing success stories for the ACTED website, development of ACTED fact sheets in preparation of donor visits, and addressing ad hoc donor requests as assigned by the PDO or PDM;
Ad hoc tasks as assigned by PDM or AC such as but not limited to updating the server, filing, writing research reports, drafting memos’s, and/ or making presentations.
Eligibility
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in international development studies, international relations, human rights, WASH, migration, agriculture, food security, gender studies, or a related field;
Fluent English (written and spoken), excellent writing and communication skills;
Prior work experience with an INGO in an emergency setting preferred;
Ability to work under pressure in a high-pace environment;
Good organisational and prioritisation skills;
Proficiency in Microsoft Office;
Knowledge of Arabic is an asset.

To be eligible for Postgraduate Programmes, applicants must be a bachelor’s or master’s degree holder by 30th of July 2015 at the latest and born no earlier than 01.01.1986 for master’s programmes.
English language Requirements: Most programmes in Turkish universities are instructed in Turkish. However, some departments and universities offer programmes in English, French or Arabic. The candidates who want to study in these languages need to have an internationally recognized certificate to prove their language proficiency. 2014 TÜBITAK Research Fellowship Programme in Turkey

The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TÜBITAK) is offering research fellowship programme for international highly qualified PhD students and young postdoctoral researchers. Maximum duration for the fellowship is 12 months. The duration for fellows already received within this program will be deducted from the total duration of the fellowship. Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate the potential to contribute significantly to Turkey’s goal of international cooperation in scientific and technological development.
About Scholarship: The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TÜBITAK) grants fellowships for international highly qualified PhD students and young post-doctoral researchers to pursue their research in Turkey in the
fields of Natural Sciences, Engineering and Technological Sciences, Medical Sciences, Agricultural Sciences, Social Sciences and Humanities.

Study: Fellowships are awarded in the field of Natural Sciences, Engineering and Technological Sciences, Medical Sciences, Agricultural Sciences, Social Sciences and Humanities. Course Level: Fellowships are available for PhD students and young postdoctoral researchers to pursue research at universities or research institutes in Turkey. Eligibility:
-Applicants should be non-Turkish citizens. Applicants who hold dual citizenship with Turkey are not eligible to apply.
-Applicants should have an acceptance from the universities or research institutes in Turkey.
-Applicants should certify that they have sufficient command of language to perform their research.
-Applicants must be 35 years old or younger for post-doctoral researchers.
-Applicants should be enrolled in a PhD program out of Turkey for PhD students
-Applicants who hold a PhD degree in Turkey should have a GPA minimum of 3.50/4.00 in PhD program.

Scholarship Open for: Foreign citizens (non-Turkish citizens) can apply for the research fellowship programme.
Duration: Maximum duration for the fellowship is 12 months. The duration for fellows already received within this program will be deducted from the total duration of the fellowship.
Value: The fellowship will cover:
-A monthly stipend of 2.250 Turkish Liras.
-In case of approval of TÜBITAK Department of Science Fellowships and Grant Programs (BIDEB) Steering Committee, travel costs and health insurance for the fellow may be partially covered.
-In case of approval of TÜBITAK BIDEB Steering Committee, funding up to 5.000 Turkish Liras for consumable expenses in the proposed research may be given.

Selection Criteria: Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate the potential to contribute significantly to Turkey’s goal of international cooperation in scientific and technological development. The proposal will be evaluated according to the following 4 evaluation criteria:
-Research potential of the fellow
-Scientific and technological quality of the research proposal
-Impact of the proposed fellowship to the applicant’s training and career development, to the hosting institution and to Turkey
-Implementation of the proposed research

2014 Turkey Scholarships Postgraduate Programme in Turkey

Turkish Government is offering fully funded postgraduate scholarships. Scholarships are open for international students from all over the world for postgraduate studies in Turkey. Total four different types of scholarships are available. Applicants can apply for only one scholarship programme in accordance with their educational background and academic goals. Applicants must be a bachelor’s or master’s degree holder by 30th of June 2014 at the latest. Application should be submitted till 31st March 2014.
About Scholarship: Turkey Scholarships Postgraduate Programmes are full government funded programmes for successful international students from all over the world for postgraduate studies in Turkey. Postgraduate scholarships are:
Ali Kuçu Science and Technology Scholarship Programme, bni Haldun Social Sciences Scholarship Programme,Yunus Emre Turkish Language Scholarship Programme and Islamic Theology Scholarship Programme. Candidates can apply only one scholarship programme in accordance with their educational background and academic goals.

Study Subject (s): Scholarships are provided to learn any of the courses. Course Level: The scholarships are available for pursuing postgraduate degree level. Scholarship Provider: Turkish Government Scholarship can be taken at: Turkey
Eligibility: To be eligible for postgraduate programmes, applicants must;
-be a citizen of a country other than Turkey (Anyone holding or ever held Turkish citizenship before cannot apply);
-not be a registered student in Turkish universities at the level of study they are applying;
-be a bachelor’s or master’s degree holder by 30th of June 2014 at the latest;
-be under the age of 30 for master’s programmes (no earlier than 01.01.1984);
-be under the age of 35 for doctorate programmes (no earlier than 01.01.1979);
-have at least 75 % cumulative grade point average or diploma grade over their maximum graduation grade or have at least 75 % success in any accepted national or international graduate admissions test;
-be in good health.

Scholarship Open for: International students (Except Turkey) can apply for the scholarships.
Duration: Duration of the scholarship for graduate degree students is :1 year Turkish language course + 1 year scientific preparation ( if necessary ) + educational duration.
Value: The scholarships will cover: Monthly stipend (app. 375 USD for master’s, 500 USD for doctorate)
-Full tuition fee
-Free 1-year Turkish language course
-Free state-run dormitory accommodation
-Round-trip air ticket
-Health insurance

Selection criteria: Firstly, candidates’ academic success and genuineness of the information and documents will be checked. Successful candidates will be invited for face to face or online interviews as a second step.

2014 TÜBITAK Graduate Scholarship Programme in Turkey

Applications are invited for TÜBITAK graduate scholarship available for the citizens of least developed countries. Applicants must be 30 years old or younger for the MSc/MA programs and 35 years old or younger for the PhD programs on the first day of the application period. Applicants who are currently enrolled in a PhD program in Turkey are also eligible to apply on the condition that they have not yet completed their six semester in the program. Maximum duration for the scholarship is 2 years for the Masters and 4 years for the PhD program. Applications will be accepted twice a year.
About Scholarship: As a member of the United Nations and an emerging economy, Turkey is committed to the cause of Least Developed Countries (LDCs) in the international arena and is ready and willing to do its part in assisting in their development process. As a part of these responsibilities, Turkey generated and declared an international aid programme for LDCs (The Economic and Technical Cooperation Package of Turkish Government for LDCs). One significant item of the programme is regarding to science and education fields. In this context, The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TÜBITAK) will give master and doctorate scholarships for citizens of LDCs. Turkey and TÜBITAK aim to generate and promote closer educational and scientific relations between Turkey and LDCs.

-Applicants who hold a Bachelor’s degree or who are currently enrolled in their fourth year of college are eligible to apply for scholarship for the MSc/MA programs.
-Applicants who are currently enrolled in an MSc/MA program in Turkey are also eligible for the scholarship on the condition that they have not yet completed their third semester in the program.
-Applicants holding an MSc/MA degree or currently enrolled in a master’s program who intend to enroll in a PhD program in Turkey are eligible to apply for the scholarship.
-Applicants who are currently enrolled in a PhD program in Turkey are also eligible to apply on the condition that they have not yet completed their six semester in the program.

Scholarship Open for: Students of Least Developed Countries of United Nations except of Turkish citizens (Afghanistan, Madagascar, Angola, Malawi, Bangladesh, Mali, Benin, Mauritania, Bhutan, Mozambique, Burkina Faso,  Myanmar, Burundi, Nepal, Cambodia, Niger, Central African Republic, Central African Republic, Rwanda, Chad, Samoa, Comoros, Sao Tome and Principe, Congo (Democratic Republic of the), Senegal, Djibouti, Sierra Leone, Equatorial Guinea, Solomon Islands, Eritrea, Somalia, Ethiopia, Sudan, Gambia, Timor-Leste, Guinea, Togo, Guinea-Bissau, Tuvalu, Haiti, Uganda, Kiribati, United Rep. of Tanzania, Lao People’s Democratic Rep., Vanuatu, Lesotho, Yemen, Liberia and Zambia) can apply for the scholarship.
Duration: Maximum duration for the scholarship is 2 years for the Masters and 4 years for the PhD program.
Value: The scholarship will consist of:
-A monthly stipend of 1.500 Turkish Liras (TL) for MSc/MA students
-A monthly stipend of 1.800 Turkish Liras (TL) for PhD students
-Tuition Fee (up to 2.000 Turkish Liras)
-A monthly allowance for health insurance coverage for the award holder only.
-Travel Allowance
-Support for Turkish Language Learning
-All scholarship awardees that successfully complete a Master’s program will be rewarded scholarship for a PhD program on the condition that they are admitted to a program at a Turkish University.

Selection Criteria: Applications are evaluated by peer review panel system by considering the application documents. Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate the potential to contribute significantly to Turkey’s goal of international cooperation in scientific and technological development.
Notification: The results are announced 2 months later after the deadline. There will not be announcement for the candidates not accepted.
