The Administrative Student Programme is aimed at undergraduate students specializing in administration, to spend a training period of 2 to 12 months during the course of their studies (Bachelor or Master).

Eligibility

You are a national of a CERN Member State or Associate Member State and studying in a Member State or Associate Member State;

Students from Non-Member States are able to apply only if they have been residing in a Member State for the last 5 years and are enrolled in a Member State educational establishment;

You should have completed at least 18 months of your undergraduate studies (Bachelor or Master) at the time of the selection committee which is in June 2018. This means that you should have started your studies not later than December 2016;

You can stay at least 2 or at most 12 months remaining registered as a full-time student. To be able to fully benefit from an administrative studentship we advise students to opt for the longest period possible;

Types of scholarship

Internship Opportunity at World Trade Organization in Geneva

The WTO Secretariat maintains a limited internship programme for post-graduate university students wishing to gain practical experience and deeper knowledge of the multilateral trading system. Only a limited number of such internship posts is available. Assignments given to interns are intended to enhance interns’ knowledge and understanding of the WTO and of trade policy more generally. However, the needs of the Division recruiting an intern will be paramount in determining the precise nature of assignments.

Internships are generally of a duration of up to 24 weeks, the length of the internship depending on the project the interns is requested to work on, and on the needs of each Division. The granting of an internship does not entail in any way the right to an extension thereof nor to a vacancy in another part of the Secretariat. Interns may nevertheless apply to external vacancies. The WTO Secretariat is seeking candidates for THE WORLD TRADE ORGANIZATION YOUNG PROFESSIONALS PROGRAMME for 2018. The WTO Young Professionals Programme (YPP) is a unique opportunity for qualified young professionals up to the age of 32 years as at 1 January 2018, from eligible developing and least-developed country (LDC) WTO Members, to enhance their knowledge and skills on WTO and international trade issues.

The Programme aims to widen the pool of professionals from these countries who can later be more competitive with respect to recruitment in the WTO and/or other regional and international organizations. This is a limited programme that offers selected young professionals with the opportunity to gain work experience in the WTO. Job description

1. PURPOSE OF POSITION

Under the supervision of the Division’s legal adviser, provide support in such fields as strengthening National Society (NS) legal base (Statutes and NS recognition laws), the recognition of new NS, use of the red cross and red crescent emblems, integrity and the Fundamental Principles.

2. MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

provide support to the analysis of existing and draft NS Statutes and/or national laws, preparation of messages and support documentation on NS legal base;

provide support to the work and meetings of the ICRC/International Federation Commission for National Society Statutes (e.g. review of new applications for recognition, process of revision of the Movement’s agreed standards for National Society Statutes and laws, etc.);

provide support to the maintenance and upgrade of Division files on NS legal base (Statutes and NS laws), emblems and integrity issues;

provide technical assistance on emblem and related issues to ICRC delegations, National Societies and other concerned audiences (including Governments);

conduct research on assigned topics on NS legal base, recognition of NS, participation issues in the Movement’s Statutory Meetings, integrity and Fundamental Principles, use of the emblem, using Division resources, ICRC archives, available databases and external sources, such as the Internet;

prepare materials and provide support to presentations and training sessions for colleagues and NS leadership;

Qualifications

1. REQUIREMENTS

Confirmed knowledge of international humanitarian law;

A Master’s degree in a relevant field (e.g. international law, international relations; etc.);

An excellent command of both English and French (fluency in one and very good working knowledge of the other; candidates will be expected to be able to converse and write in both languages);

A demonstrated interest in humanitarian action, the ICRC and the other components of the Movement.

2. ASSETS

Additional languages, notably Spanish or Arabic.

Prior experience with a component of the Movement (National Society, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies or the ICRC).

Biozentrum University of Basel is offering a maximum of 10 PhD Fellowships for Excellence in Molecular Life Sciences discipline. Acceptance into the “Fellowships for Excellence” program is highly prestigious due to the rigorous selection process.

The Biozentrum encourages talented, ambitious and highly motivated young scientists to apply to the Biozentrum Basel International PhD Program.

The Biozentrum is the largest department at the University of Basel’s Faculty of Science. The primary focus of this interdisciplinary institute is basic molecular and biomedical research and teaching. The Biozentrum holds a leading position nationally and internationally and closely networks with partners from the academic world and industry.

Scholarship Award: The “Fellowships for Excellence” cover the salary of the fellows for three years (including rotations). Should the PhD thesis exceed this time, group leaders and fellows are expected to together identify alternative funding.

Eligibility: Applicants must either already hold or anticipate receiving before enrollment a university degree that qualifies them for a PhD program at the University of Basel (MSc, Diploma, etc.). In exceptional cases, outstanding students with a BSc degree are also eligible to apply to the “Fellowships for Excellence” program; they however will have to pass additional courses at the Biozentrum after acceptance. PhD students who already have enrolled at the Biozentrum or plan to start their PhD thesis before September 1 of the same year as the open call are not eligible to apply to the “Fellowships for Excellence” program.

Nationality: Applicants from all over the world are eligible for these PhD fellowships.

How to Apply: The mode of applying is online. For the application, electronic copies of the diploma/MSc degree with grades and transcripts as pdf files, a CV or scientific résumé (maximum one page, pdf format), a description of research interests in general and one with a specific focus on a potential PhD thesis at the Biozentrum as well as the names and contact information of 2 referees from the candidate’s previous academic environment (usually faculty members) are required. The referees will be contacted automatically and will be asked for an online evaluation as well as a reference letter. Friedrich Miescher Institute International PhD Program in Switzerland, 2017

Friedrich Miescher Institute for Biomedical Research (FMI) is inviting applications for international PhD fellowship program. These fellowships are tenable in epigenetics, neurobiology, and mechanisms of cancer.

The FMI International Ph.D. Program provides advanced, interdisciplinary training in epigenetics, neurobiology, and mechanisms of cancer.

The Friedrich Miescher Institute was established as a foundation on April 10, 1970, by a joint decision of the then two separate companies Ciba AG and J.R. Geigy AG.

Applicants must hold a university degree that would formally qualify them to enter a Ph.D. or equivalent program in their home country (MSc., Diploma, DEA etc.).

Course Level: Fellowships are available for pursuing a PhD program at the FMI.

Study Subject: Fellowships are awarded for basic research in biology with a focus in epigenetics, neurobiology, and mechanisms of cancer.

Number of Awards: The number of openings varies between each round of applications.

The University of Bern is offering up to 15 doctoral positions for upcoming international scholars. Positions are available for students who have completed all of their studies-to-date outside of Switzerland and achieved outstanding grades in their master’s degree.

The aim of students is to commence and complete your doctoral studies at the University of Bern. All of your academic qualifications to date have been obtained outside of Switzerland, and you have achieved outstanding grades.

The University of Bern is a university in the Swiss capital of Bern and was founded in 1834. It is regulated and financed by the Canton of Bern

Course Level: Positions are available pursuing the doctoral programme.

Study Subject: Positions are open to study the subjects offered by the university.

Scholarship Award: The positions are limited to three years, and must commence before the 1st of January 2018. Payment is according to the regulations of the Swiss National Fund (SNF). A prerequisite for the application process, however, is that a doctoral supervisor from the University of Bern is prepared to cover 50% of the wages for the 3 year period.

The University of Geneva is offering a new scholarship program for 2017-2018 intake. Scholarships are open for citizens of developing countries to undertake Swiss institution’s International Organizations MBA (IOMBA) programme.

This scholarship program has the objective to encourage and facilitate the participation of candidates coming from abroad to Geneva, candidates coming from low and middle-income countries as well as candidates working in a Nonprofit Organization.

The University of Geneva is a public research university located in Geneva, Switzerland. It was founded in 1559 by John Calvin as a theological seminary and law school. It remained focused on theology until the 17th century when it became a centre for Enlightenment scholarship. In 1873, it dropped its religious affiliations and became officially secular.

A Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) score, no older than 2 years, is required of all applicants whose native language is not English, or who did not receive an undergraduate or graduate degree from an institution in which the language of instruction was English

Course Level: Scholarships are available for pursuing master’s programme.

Study Subject: Scholarships are awarded to study full-time International Organizations MBA (IOMBA) programme.

Scholarship Award: Scholarship has a value of 7’900CHF. Scholarships are based on a combination of academic merit, financial need, and availability of funds.
