European Schoolnet is a network of 30 European Ministries of Education, based in Brussels, Belgium. As a not-for-profit organisation, it aims to bring innovation in teaching and learning to the key stakeholders: Ministries of Education, schools, teachers, researchers, and industry partners. European Schoolnet is looking for an intern to join the Science team of European Schoolnet in Brussels.

This position will be a highly active, hands-on role and will give an excellent opportunity to get to grips with a range of issues in project management of science projects and work in an international environment liaising with colleagues and partners from all over Europe. The position can include these tasks:

Drafting articles, letters, minutes and reports;

Offering administrative support for contracts and finance control;

Organising the logistics of events such as meetings, training sessions and conferences;

Liaising with partners and subcontractors (e.g. teachers, European institutions, graphic designers, hotels, etc.).

Eligibility

Successful candidates should meet following requirements:

Very good spoken and written English (Level C1 minimum);

Masters degree preferably in education, science, or science communication, with strong motivation on the following areas: Science Education, ICT in Education and European funded projects;

Good understanding of IT tools (minimum MS Office), ideally also OpenOffice, Moodle, Google docs, etc.;

Experience in writing articles/letters/papers/reports and planning agendas/meetings;

Good organizational skills since success in this role will depend upon forward planning and proactivity;

Attention to detail necessary;

Candidates should be enthusiastic with the desire to learn and maintain a high level of quality in their work.

Remuneration

The internship position would be based in Brussels, for 6 months and remunerated with EUR 1,000 per month.

TechChange Summer Fellowship

Description

TechChange offers a summer fellowship program for recent graduates and rising college juniors and seniors. The fellowship will provide practical training in web development as well as a unique exposure to a range of applications and organizations using technology to tackle a variety of global challenges — from creating prosthetic limbs with a 3D printer to combating malaria with mobile devices.

As a fellow you will spend three months designing and implementing a web development project related to education, technology, and social good. TechChange staff will provide training, mentorship, and a series of events to support you in this process.

Eligibility

Required eligibility criteria:

Be a current junior, senior, or a recent graduate;

Have at least one year of experience in computer science or web development;

Possess an interest in international relations, international development, humanitarian work, and social good;

Be self-starting and willing to have a little fun too.

Desirable eligibility criteria:

Proficiency in Node.js, Django, or PHP;

Exposure to Javascript frameworks;

Familiarity with Grunt, Gulp, or other build tools;

Teaching or curriculum design experience.

Fellowship

Eligibility:	Grants is to support outstanding graduates from all disciplines and make grant-financed doctorate study at the University of Kassel attractive. The age limit for the first award of a doctorate grant is generally 35. Each child increases the age limit by one year. The age limit can in particular be increased if the candidate has completed professional training or a second educational pathway before their study. If a child is born, an application can be made for the doctorate grant to be extended by half a year.

Policy & Advocacy Intern

The European Youth Forum is recruiting an intern for 3 months, starting immediately, in the Policy and Advocacy Department of the organisation. The internship is full-time and based at the European Youth Forum secretariat in Brussels.

The intern will work to develop its advocacy work and its cooperation with European institutions. The intern would specifically work on projects and events reaching out to decision-makers and stakeholders at European level.

TASKS

The intern will support the institutional team of the Policy and Advocacy Department in its relations with European institutions across all policies areas that are relevant for young people. The objectives are to help to set the agenda, and deepen our relations with institutional partners. The intern will be supported by the Institutional Coordinator to achieve jointly agreed tasks and activities.

These may include:

Contribute through helping in the organising of events to enlarge, structure and animate the network of institutional contacts;

Monitoring the work of the European Parliament, in particular of the CULT committee, the Youth Intergroup and the Plenary on youth issues;

Monitoring the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals;

Work directly on some policy actions – such as the preparation of a simulation EU referendum in the UK;

Support holistic vision of youth policy across all policy areas and the Structured Dialogue on Youth process.

PROFILE OF THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

The Youth Forum seeks applicants with the following profile:

Able to demonstrate a previous experience or an interest in the youth policy field;

Studies or direct experience of European institutions;

PhD Scholarships for Developing Countries at KU Leuven

As one of its contributions to development cooperation, KU Leuven offers scholarships every academic year to exceptional students from developing countries to course their PhD in the largest university of Flanders, Belgium. The programme is organised and managed by IRO, the University’s Interfaculty Council for Development Cooperation. Over the past ten years, the Doctoral Scholarships Programme has supported over a hundred PhD graduates. KU Leuven is situated at about twenty kilometers from Brussels, the capital of both Belgium and Europe.

It is the oldest university of the Low Countries. As such, it has a long-standing tradition of hospitality towards students and scholars from abroad. Currently, almost 7,000 international students (about 15% of the total number of students at KU Leuven) have found their home away from home in Leuven.

Eligibility

All applicants must meet following general eligibility conditions:

The applicant must be a citizen of one of the countries on the OCDE DAC table that are considered as: Least Developed Countries, Low Income Countries or Low Middle Income Countries;

The applicant may not possess a citizenship from an EU country. The applicant may not posses a long-term EU residence permit;

The candidate’s latest master’s degree must have been awarded no more than ten years prior to 1 October 2016 (including the ongoing calendar year);

The candidate must hold an academic qualification at least equivalent to a high distinction. Degrees obtained with a final score equivalent to second class second/lower division will not be taken into consideration;

Excellent academic quality of the research project, focusing on the development relevance of the proposal;

The candidate must demonstrate a development-oriented motivation;

The candidate must be supported by a local co-promoter at the candidate’s home country to ensure embeddedness of the research within the country’s context;

The candidate must be supported by excellent recommendations from relevant referees.

Scholarship

The IRO Doctoral Scholarships are only granted for programmes with a maximum duration of 48 months and, if needed, for one pre-doctoral year as a preparation for the doctoral programme.
