Intern Communications

The European Climate Foundation (ECF) was established in 2008 as a major philanthropic initiative to promote climate and energy policies that greatly reduce Europe’s greenhouse gas emissions and to help Europe play a stronger international leadership role to mitigate climate change. The ECF is funded by major multi-year commitments from donors in Europe and the United States. The Strategic Communications Team

The ECF’s Strategic Communications Team is the outreach unit of the European Climate Foundation. Its role is to act as a center of expertise for communication on climate change. Its objective is to help create political, media and public endorsement for strong action to address climate change at an international, national and sector level. It applies its communications expertise and resources to ensure that climate change issues are objectively and accurately reported and debated in the public space. The Strategic Communications Team delivers communications and advocacy services to ECF grantees and partners and builds this capacity in the climate community.

The position - Communications Internship

The Strategic Communications Team is currently accepting applications for an enthusiastic individual to gain professional experience in climate change communications as a “Communications Intern”. This is an exciting opportunity for a graduate/young professional with a sincere interest in climate and energy issues and the way they are interpreted and reported in the media. As part of the media team, the candidate will work in the ECF’s Brussels Office in support of all programmes and projects of the ECF.

Intern Responsibilities

Assignments can vary depending on the strategic needs of the organisation, but the intern’s responsibilities will include some of the following tasks:

Working with the media team to support the communications and media needs of the ECF and its grantees;

Contributing to the development and delivery of effective outreach strategies to drive progressive EU policy-making in the climate and energy field;

Supporting workstreams aimed at strengthening the outcome of the international negotiations within the UNFCCC;

Making full use of IT and new media tools to disseminate the messaging of ECF projects and the work of its grantees further;

Supporting the development of the internal communications database at the structural and content level and making sure its contacts are up-to-date;

Monitoring of the news agenda and regular reporting on coverage;

Maintaining a dynamic calendar of ECF activity and external events to enhance communications planning;

Planning, promotion and coordination of conferences and events;

Other ad hoc research work and administrative tasks.

The Club of Rome is a global think tank with a broad range of interdisciplinary international activities. The Club’s International Centre is headquartered in Winterthur, Switzerland. It is currently offering the following 12-month full time traineeship position Associate Project & Communications Manager starting from 1 September 2015. In the course of this one year traineeship as Associate Project & Communications Manager successful applicant will work under the overall supervision of the Executive Directorand the Secretary General. Following tasks are connected with the position:

Support the organization of meetings, conferences and events in Switzerland and abroad, such as the Club of Rome Annual Global Meeting to take place in October 2015 in Switzerland;

Manage and/or assist in the preparation of seminars and workshops as part of the Club of Rome work programme;

Maintain financial records and accounts and support the budget preparations under supervision, manage information and database development /administration;

Support the Secretary General and team of the Club of Rome in various administrative and organizational matters (schedules, appointments, travel, correspondence, etc.);

Support internal and external communications (i.e. with members of the Club of Rome, local public in Winterthur and Switzerland), handle inquiries;

Provide assistance in maintaining relations with Swiss authorities on HR-related issues such as health insurance, social security, pension, residence permits, visa;

Provide support on the substantive programme and organisation of the Club of Rome as required;

Maintain and further develop the Club of Rome website and social media channels including its web-based communication network, research platform, public forum;

Support the production and distribution of publications including news releases, information booklets, conference materials, presentations, features and annual reports, educational materials and other publications as required.

Eligibility

Following experience and skills are required:

Graduate student in Social Science, Politics, Economics, Natural or Environmental Science/ Humanities or similar. Practical experience in project management or communications (i.e. previous internships) will be an asset;

Demonstrated commitment to the Club’s core values, mission and programs;

Profound interest in long-term global issues in the fields of social and economic development, environment, climate change and energy. Ideally, you have already worked on similar issues at your university, voluntarily, or during internships;

Excellent computer skills. Experience in preparing Power Point presentations, Excel files, picture processing and website development would be a strong asset;

Excellent English skills; good German will be a strong plus; further language skills are a plus;

Strong team player, good communicator, results-oriented, reliable, flexible and creative;

Excellent organization skills with the ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities and meet deadlines;

Excellent interpersonal skills with an ability to work with diverse people in multicultural environments.

Remuneration

The amount of remuneration is 3,400 Swiss Francs per month that will allow to cover basic living expenses in Switzerland. The Club of Rome is not able to cover any further expenses (i.e. accommodation or travel costs).

Paid Internship Project at the European Police Office in The Hague, Netherlands:

Description

Applications are invited for an internship project called “Facilitation of online collaboration in intellectual property area” at the European Police Office (Europol). This internship project focuses on providing support to one community of the Europol Platform for Experts (EPE) – an online collaboration tool facilitating knowledge sharing.

The specific platform supports public and private sector collaboration and knowledge sharing in five main areas – general intellectual property crime, pharmaceuticals, pesticides, food and drinks and online piracy. The project will include research, summarising and referencing legal documents (such as EU and national legislations, judgements, studies regarding legal issues etc) for the use of platform members. It will also offer space for improvements to enhance interactivity, further cooperation and knowledge sharing. For this project, the intern will work closely with the Business Product Management function (CDBPM) and the team supporting the intellectual property fraud community. The project will be led and supervised by a Senior Specialist within the Intellectual Property Crime team. The successful applicant will join the Internship Project for a period of 3 months (40 hours a week), which may be extended for another period of up to 3 months. The internship will take place at Europol premises in The Hague, The Netherlands.

Eligibility

Internship candidate must:

Be a national of one of the Member States of the European Union and enjoy full rights as a citizen;

Have reached the age of majority in their country of origin;

Have a level of education which corresponds to completed or ongoing university studies or vocational training relevant for the tasks of Europol;

Have very good knowledge of at least two European Union languages, of which one should be English;

Provide a recent Certificate of Good Conduct prior to commencing the internship. Annex A of Europol Decision of the Director on Internships sets out an overview of relevant certificates for each of the Member States.

Remuneration

Interns meeting the eligibility criteria are awarded a monthly maintenance grant of EUR 776 per month during the period of internship. Interns receiving the grant and whose place of selection is more than 50 km from The Hague are entitled to the reimbursement of travel expenses incurred at the beginning and end of the internship. All interns are insured by Europol against the risk of accident or death while present or having a link to Europol premises.

CADRE DU STAGE:

La Croix-Rouge française intervient dans 26 pays, en Afrique, Amérique, Asie, Pacifique, Caraïbes, Moyen Orient au travers de plus de 200 projets, sur diverses thématiques : lutte contre le VIH, promotion à l’hygiène, reconstruction, formation au secourisme, santé publique et communautaire, nutrition, aide alimentaire, relance économique, gestion des risques et catastrophes. Les contextes d’intervention vont de l’urgence au développement.

Le pôle des Délégués en Missions Internationales (DMI) assure la fonction de gestion des ressources humaines pour les opérations internationales. Le service est composé d’un responsable de pôle, d’un bureau de recrutement et suivi des DMI, d’un bureau de formation et d’un bureau suivi administratif.

Le stage se déroule au sein du bureau de recrutement et suivi des DMI, qui est composé d’un responsable du bureau et de quatre chargées des ressources humaines internationales.

Parallèlement à sa contribution au recrutement des DMI, le/la stagiaire aura l’occasion d’évoluer dans un contexte humanitaire et de développer ses compétences dans le domaine des ressources humaines internationales.

CONTEXTE DU STAGE:

Le/la stagiaire intégrera une équipe jeune, dynamique et engagée. Au sein du pôle DMI et sous la responsabilité de la chargée de recrutement international, il/elle participe au recrutement des délégués après une période de formation. Le/la stagiaire bénéficiera d’un parcours de formation tout au long de son stage afin de développer ses connaissances liées au milieu humanitaire (formation premier secours, gestion de projet, WORC, Stay Safe…). Le/la stagiaire au sein du pôle DMI contribuera à la représentation de la Croix-Rouge française et ses actions à l’international vers l’extérieur, première porte d’entrée des candidats en vue de s’intégrer aux équipes CRF sur le terrain.
