About Surfrider Foundation Europe:
Surfrider Foundation Europe is a
non-profit organization, dedicated to defending, saving, improving and
managing in a sustainable manner the oceans, coastlines, waves and the
people who enjoy them. Since its creation, efforts have been
concentrated on coastal issues, but today our scope of interest and
involvement is spreading to related areas of lakes and rivers. Surfrider
Foundation Europe is accredited with the EU, the United Nations and is a
member of Surfrider Foundation International, of the federation France

Missions:
Within the framework of the organization of its Ocean
Initiatives 2014, broad environmental awareness-raising and citizen
mobilization operations organized in Europe by volunteers through waste
collection and clean-up activities, Surfrider Foundation Europe is
looking for an intern to support the organization of its Ocean
Initiatives program in the Ile de France region and Belgium. Under the
responsibility of the local office manager and project manager, the
intern will carry out the following missions:
• Citizen mobilization in the area (follow-up phone calls with former and prospective participants)
• Providing follow-up and logistical support for recorded operations
• Organization of educational projects with schools and the general public in the area
• Prospection activities searching for new partners and networks (associative, sports, media)
You will also participate and support the daily functioning of the association.

Activiteiten van het kantoor (Brussels Office)
Brussels Office Fokker Technologies, Damen Shipyards en Scheepsbouw NL
Het kantoor fungeert als ‘vooruitgeschoven post’ van de bovengenoemde
twee bedrijven en de branche-organisatie Scheepsbouw NL bij de Europese
Unie in Brussel. Het Brussels Office is een ‘Public Affairs’ kantoor en
volgt de activiteiten van de belangrijkste EU instellingen zoals het
Europees Parlement, de Europese Commissie en de Raad. Het kantoor
monitort en analyseert Europese wet- en regelgeving die impact kan
hebben op het functioneren van de aangesloten klanten. Het kantoor
adviseert over de te volgen strategie van beleidsbeïnvloeding (lobby) en
voert deze indien nodig ook zelf uit. Hiermee ondersteunt het kantoor
de strategische lange termijnontwikkeling van de business en
activiteiten van de klanten. Daarnaast brengt het kantoor de
mogelijkheden voor EU financiering in kaart, met name voor Onderzoeks-
en Innovatieprojecten.
Het kantoor richt zich voornamelijk op het analyseren en volgen van actuele ontwikkelingen op het vlak van:
1. Europese, wet- en regelgeving en Europese fondsen
2. Europese ontwikkelingen en nieuws
Bovenstaande activiteiten zijn afgestemd op de business, activiteiten van onze klanten zoals:
Onderzoeks-
en innovatiebeleid, handelspolitiek, mededingingsbeleid, regionaal
beleid, wetgeving over chemische stoffen, industriebeleid en
klimaatbeleid. De nadruk ligt uiteraard op de vliegtuigindustrie en de
maritieme industrie.
Concrete activiteiten van het kantoor zijn: het analyseren van
beleidsdocumenten, volgen van EU nieuws, vertegenwoordigen van de leden
van het kantoor bij Europese brancheorganisaties, bijwonen van Europese
en soms nationale netwerkevenementen (seminars, lezingen), organiseren
van bezoeken aan de Europese instellingen en het uitvoeren van lobby
activiteiten.
Op basis van de verzamelde informatie schrijft het
kantoor o.a. rapporten, notities, verslagen, verzorgt het presentaties
en helpt het in de formulering van standpunten en het eventueel opzetten
van een lobbyplan voor de klanten.
Om ons werk goed te kunnen
uitvoeren onderhouden we regelmatig contact met de aangesloten klanten.
Hiervoor is regelmatig op en neer reizen naar Nederland onvermijdelijk.
Taakomschrijving van de stage
• Monitoren van dossiers, nieuws en beantwoorden van vragen over de EU.
• Schrijven van notities over actuele Europese dossiers
• Directe operationele ondersteuning van de General Manager en de European Affairs Officer
•
Stageproject in de lijn van de activiteiten van het kantoor. De inhoud
van het stageproject is nader vast te stellen aan de hand van overleg
tussen opdrachtgever (Het Brussels Office), student en eventuele
stagebegeleider van de universiteit. (NB. binnen deze stage is het niet
mogelijk een afstudeerproject uit te voeren)
De stagiair(e) krijgt een goede indruk van de gang van zaken binnen
de EU, het Brussels Office en de activiteiten van de klanten. Gezien de
geringe grootte van het kantoor zal de stagiair(e) meedraaien als een
volwaardig medewerker, maar ook een groot deel van de operationele taken
van het kantoor voor zijn/haar rekening moeten nemen (beantwoorden
telefoon, uitvoeren ondersteunde taken).
Duur van de stage: 6 maanden
Periode: 1 februari 2014 tot en met 31 juli 2014

Intern, Energy Efficiency Programme – Job Description
The European Climate Foundation’s Energy Efficiency Programme is
offering an internship for six months – possibly extendible to 12 –
starting in early February 2013. The selected candidate will be based in
The Hague and will work closely and actively with the team on a range
of tasks:
- Support to the team’s grant-making activities: managing
relationships with grantees and grant-seekers; reviewing grantee
proposals; evaluating grantee reports.
- Research on energy-efficiency related subjects and monitoring of relevant legislative developments.

You will be dealing with :
management of EIPA’s framework contracts with the EU Institutions;

EIPA has the framework contract for the provision of training and
consultancy services for the EU institutions in the sphere of EU
Governance. The main responsibility of the person recruited will be to
assist in the practical coordination of these activities, under the
direction of the overall programme manager (the Head of Unit). The tasks
will largely be of a managerial nature, but involve both permanent

Further Official Scholarship Information and Application
Catholic University Leuven is offering fellowships for senior researchers
in Belgium. Candidates must not have been active at KU Leuven within a
period of five years preceding the date of application, regardless of
the source of income during that period. The duration of the
SF-fellowship is one year and is basically not renewable. The
application (including a renewal application) must be done through an
electronic application form available through GeDOC online. Application
should be submitted till March 27, 2014.
About Scholarship: SF fellowships are aimed at senior non-KU
Leuven researchers (regardless of their nationality) who have publicly
defended their doctoral thesis at least 8 years before the official
submission date. As a general rule, fellows should bring in new
knowledge and expertise that is lacking, insufficiently developed or
that can be extended within the research group of the applicant(s). For
all fellowships, the expected input must go beyond the mere provision of
labour.
Study: Fellowships are provided for one year in applicant’s research areas.
Course Level: The fellowships are available for pursuing research program.
Scholarship Provider: Catholic University Leuven, Belgium
Scholarship can be taken at: Belgium
Eligibility: -Candidates must have obtained a doctorate from a
university other than KU Leuven and must preferably have an
international profile.
-Candidates must have publicly defended their first PhD at least 8
years before the official submission date. Candidates should preferably
hold a permanent position at another university or research institution.
-In order to be taken into consideration, the candidate must be available on a full-time basis.
-Candidates must not have been active at KU Leuven within a period of
five years preceding the date of application, regardless of the source
of income during that period. If candidates did work at KU Leuven during
this period, this time (interruptions included) will be deducted from
the maximum total duration of 36 months.
Applicants and their candidates are requested to seek parallel external
funding. American candidates can consider Fulbright and CRB fellowships.
European researchers can rely on Marie Curie and ERG grants from the
EU, NATO grants, von Humboldt grants, GOS grants, IWT grants, DWTC
grants, etc. If a parallel scholarship were to be allocated which is
lower than the BOF allocation, the Special Research Fund can be
requested to match that amount. The latter does not apply to Fulbright
fellowships.
Scholarship Open for: International applicants can apply for the fellowships.
Duration: SF fellowships are granted for a maximum of 12
months and are, in principle, not extendable. In exceptional cases with
special motivation an extension of up to 12 months is possible.
-Applications for short term fellowships (1 to 3 months) and summer
fellowships are only possible if the supervisor can provide adequate
justification.
-Sequential fellowships or mandates of a different type are possible,
but the total stay at KU Leuven may not exceed 36 months within a
period of five years.
-Fellowships must be commenced within a period of 12 months following
the date of the official allocation. Fellowships may be interrupted upon
request, but the total duration of the interruptions (including
deferral) may not exceed two years.
-As this is an allocation in the name of the candidate, the Research
Co-ordination Office must be notified if the mandate is discontinued.
Value: -Fellows will be paid by means of a grant, a salary or
expenses. The level of the grant, salary or expenses is determined in
accordance with the level of the fellow and the percentage of
remuneration in the fellow’s own institution. The distinction between a
grant or a salary is made on the basis of the statutory regulations for
grants.
-A budget to reimburse insurance costs will be provided for all fellows.
-For all fellows, compensation for travel expenses will be made up to a
maximum of €650 for European countries and a maximum of €1000 for
non-European countries. Travel expenses will be reimbursed based on
proof of expenditure.
Selection Criteria: The following criteria is used for the evaluation of an SF-application (the applicant’s letter is important for both criteria):
-the scientific esteem of the candidate, as evident from his/her curriculum vitae and academic bibliography;
-the expected added benefit of the candidate, specifically for the research of the applicant(s).

-a description of the research project and work plan;
-if applicable: justification why parallel application was made at the FWO and other agencies;
