The purpose of this scholarship is to support students students who have lost a parent or guardian. Total of all scholarships is $125,000, and allocated in the three different scholarships.

Description
Paying for college is a major financial challenge for most American families, but it becomes infinitely more difficult when a parent dies at an early age. Typically, parents can be counted on to provide at least some financial support for college. But when they’re gone and can no longer lend a financial hand, college often seems out of reach for many young people. LIFE takes great pride in being able to help deserving young people realize their dream of achieving a college education.

LIFE Lessons also provides the LIFE Foundation with the opportunity to help all parents understand the important role that life insurance plays within a sound college-funding plan. Parents’ dreams of a college education for their children don’t need to die when they do. Recognizing the character and perseverance that so many young people show in the face of such adversity, the LIFE Foundation sponsors the LIFE Lessons Scholarship Program for college students and college-bound high school seniors. Qualified entrants who submit essays or videos about how the death of a parent or guardian impacted their lives are eligible for a Grant Prize of $15,000 in scholarship money.  Two Grand Prize winners will be chosen from the pool of First Runners-Up from the essay and video categories.  Total of all scholarships is $125,000, and allocated in the following amounts:

Grand Prize Scholarship:

• Essay (1): $15,000 (15k)
• Video (1): $15,000 (15k)

Essay Scholarships

• First Runners-Up (5): $7,500 (37.5k)
• Second Runners-Up (4): $5,000 (20k)
• Third Runners-Up (8): $2,000 (16k)

International King’s Continuation Scholarships at King’s College London, UK

This scholarship is targeted for the currently registered students on a postgraduate research degree programme at King’s College London. There are 20 awards are available for the academic year 2013/14 and each award is worth up to a maximum of £15,000 p.a. Funds can be used towards either tuition fees (home/EU or international) or living expenses and the awards are renewable for the remaining length of the postgraduate research programme, subject to satisfactory progress.
Description

The King’s Continuation Scholarship (KCS) offers support to postgraduate research students who are currently registered at King’s College London. The award is open to currently registered postgraduate research students who have at least 12 months of full-time registration remaining on their current PGR programme from September 2013, which excludes the writing-up period. There will be 20 awards available for the academic year 2013/14 and each award is worth up to a maximum of £15,000 p.a. Eligibility

• Be currently registered on a postgraduate research degree programme at King’s College London;

• These studentships CANNOT be held on a part-time basis; applicants who are currently undertaking their research as a part-time student must agree to convert to full-time study if successful;
• PGR degree programmes referred to in this document cover MPhil/PhD degrees and professional doctorates such as EdD, DClinPsy, MD and DMin;
• Distance learning programmes are not eligible;
• Masters programmes are not eligible;
• Students who are in their ‘writing up’ year, or are due to go into ‘writing up’ in 2013/14, are not eligible.

2013 Davis-Putter Scholarship Fund, USA

Davis-Putter Scholarship Fund is now available for students working for social change and actively working for peace and justice.

Description
The recipients of the scholarship should work for civil rights, against McCarthyism, and for peace in Vietnam. Recent grantees have been active in the struggle against racism, sexism, homophobia, and other forms of oppression; building the movement for economic justice; and creating peace through international anti-imperialist solidarity

Benefits: The maximum grant is $10,000 and may be considerably smaller depending on the applicant’s circumstances and the amount of funding available.

Eligibility
This scholarship is targeted to students who able to do academic work at the university level and who are part of the progressive movement on the campus and in the community. In addition applicants must active to participate in struggles for civil rights, economic justice, international solidarity or other progressive issues.
The Davis-Putter scholars are also both graduate and undergraduate students and must be enrolled in an accredited school and receiving college credit for the time period covered by their grant.

The application must include a short personal statement, transcripts, letters of support from two people able to evaluate the applicant’s current political work, an official financial statement (i.e., FAFSA or SAR), and a passport-like photograph suitable for reproduction.
