University of Washington and TRACE International invite application for TRACE Scholar Program to pursue studies related to strategies and tools for increasing transparency and reducing corruption. Scholarship is available for international lawyer from a developing country.

This LLM scholarship is aimed at developing exceptional young leaders in the field of anti-corruption who are committed to advancing commercial transparency.

Eligibility

A first degree in law or equivalent;

Is a national from either a low or lower-middle income developing country (as defined by the World Bank) or, for 2016-17 only, is a national from an Eurasian/CIS (Commonwealth of Independent States) country. Applicants from these countries will be considered for a scholarship sponsored by TeliaSonera;

Will make a commitment to return to applicant’s home country to work for a period of 2-3 years;

Evidence of leadership skills;

Willingness to participate in interviews via Skype;

Ready to commence studies in late August 2016 for a period of one year;

Strong English skills. The following minimum score is required, (test scores must be less than two years old):

580 TOEFL;

92 TOEFLiBT;

Scholarship

The TRACE Scholar Program will fully fund (with tuition, lodging and travel) an international lawyer from a developing country to pursue studies related to strategies and tools for increasing transparency and reducing corruption.

The UW Law TRACE Scholar will spend an academic year at the University of Washington followed by a paid summer internship at TRACE headquarters in Annapolis, Maryland. The person selected as a TRACE Scholar must be ready to commence his/her studies in late August 2016 for a period of one year.

Commonwealth Shared Scholarships for Master’s Courses in UK, 2016

Commonwealth Scholarship Commission in the United Kingdom (CSC) in partnership with UK universities offers Commonwealth Shared Scholarships for students from developing Commonwealth countries. Shared Scholarships are usually tenable for one-year Master’s courses only.

The purpose of scholarship is to contribute to development needs of Commonwealth countries by providing training for skilled and qualified professionals and academics who would not otherwise have been able to study in the UK.

The Commonwealth Scholarship and Fellowship Plan (CSFP) is one of the largest and most prestigious scholarship schemes for international study in the world. Since it was established in 1959, around 30,000 individuals have benefited – 25,000 of them have held awards funded by the UK government, managed by the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission in the United Kingdom (CSC).

If applicants require a Tier 4 visa to come to the UK to study, they may be required to take an approved English language test and/or be screened for tuberculosis for your visa application. These regulations are subject to change at any time.

Course Level: Scholarships are available for pursuing master’s degree program at UK Institutions.

Study Subject: Scholarships are awarded to study subjects related to the development of their home country at participating UK universities only.

Scholarship Award: Shared Scholarships are jointly funded by the CSC and participating UK universities. Each Scholarship provides:
-Approved airfare from their home country to the UK and return at the end of their award (arranged by the university; funded by the CSC)
-Approved tuition and examination fees (funded by the CSC)
-Stipend (living allowance) at the rate of £1,034 per month, or £1,268 per month for those studying at universities in the London metropolitan area (rates quoted at 2015-2016 levels) (paid and funded by the university)
-Thesis grant towards the cost of preparing a dissertation, where applicable (claimed from and paid by the university; funded by the CSC)
-Warm clothing allowance and visa reimbursement, where applicable (paid and funded by the university)
-Study travel grant towards the costs of study-related travel within the UK or overseas (claimed from and paid by the university; funded by the CSC)
-Excess baggage allowance, up to an annual approved limit, when returning home (claimed from and paid by the university; funded by the CSC)
-No additional allowances are available for spouses or other dependants.

General functions: Under the direct supervision of the Senior Emergency and Post-Crisis Specialist, the incumbent will act as intern to the Emergency and Post-Crisis team. He/ she will have the following duties and responsibilities:

Assist in the preparation of project review and/or uploading of modification/reports and proposals to ECHO;

Assist in reviewing project reports in the field of humanitarian aid from IOM field missions to DG ECHO. This includes assisting in the review of report content, drafting of cover letters and update of relevant IOM databases and uploading the reports in APPEL;

Assist in providing support to IOM field missions, specifically with information on EU rules and regulations and the application for electronic exchange (APPEL);

Assist in resources mobilization by regularly reviewing relevant website for new funding opportunities, relevant press releases and communications, as well as events that are of interest to IOM in the field of humanitarian aid and post crisis operations and prepare weekly updates;

Assist in liaising with EC staff as well as IOM missions by attending EC events, drafting messages / summary of relevant EC documentation, regularly updating the IOM EPC Regional Office Brussels webpage and drafting of communication with EC counterparts;

Attend unit meetings, external partner meetings, and/or thematic seminars and conferences and take notes when required;

Assist in the organization of meetings and events;

Assist in relevant tasks in the fields of emergency and post-crisis, resettlement and migration, climate change and environment;

Any other tasks as may be required by her/his supervisor/s.

Desirable qualifications and experience:

a)University degree in Political Sciences, Social Sciences, International Relations or Law;

b) First professional experience in the field of EU liaison, preferably in the field of emergency & post-crisis or DG ECHO would be a distinct advantage;

c) knowledge about EU budget rules and procedures an advantage;

d) good level of computer literacy;

e) strong organizational skills;
