In memory of David Carr, a media columnist for The New York Times, and one of the most important voices in journalism,who has passed away February, 2015, The New York Times launches the first David Carr Fellowship. The first David Carr Fellow will spend two years in The Times’s newsroom covering the intersection of technology, media and culture. The focus of the fellow’s work could be steady, sustained news stories, magazine-style features, investigative efforts, videography, or a mix of approaches, depending on the interests of the fellow and the recommendation of Times editors.

The fellowship is an opportunity for a journalist early in his or her career to build upon David’s commitment to holding power accountable and telling engaging, deeply reported stories. Candidates should have at least three years of experience and be eager to experiment with creative ways of storytelling through video, text, social media and other means.

Eligibility

Journalists with experience of all types are welcome, especially those from digital and new media. The Times wants the David Carr Fellow to be selected from a diverse group of candidates, so journalists of all backgrounds are encouraged to apply.

Communication Assistant Internship

Location: Brussels, Belgium

Entity: ESTIF, the European Solar Thermal Industry Federation. ESTIF represents the interests of the solar heating and cooling industry, actively promoting the use of these technologies in Europe. Its membership covers the whole solar thermal value chain, from collector manufacturers to component suppliers, research institutes, service providers, national solar thermal and renewable energies associations.

Internship overview: We are looking for a graduate, with a commitment to renewable energy and willing to work on different communication related aspects: external & internal communication, media relations, website and social media, publications and communication materials.

Main Tasks:

Support on the management of the main ESTIF website, related websites and social media

Monitor media and press coverage of a range of issues relevant for the solar thermal sector

Draft texts and articles for different purposes: website, media, newsletter and other documents

Assist in the editing of publications, printed or digital: brochures, newsletters communication materials

Support the work towards media: drafting press releases, media listings and enquiries

Support the internal communication work, mainly towards members

Updating the contacts’ database

To cooperate in the organisation of workshops and other events and support project management

To contribute, as required, to the overall work of the association and perform other responsibilities and duties as assigned

Desirable skills:

Excellent knowledge of spoken and written English: native speaker or equivalent level.

Good knowledge of spoken and written German.

Very good communication skills, either written or spoken, including copywriting.

Degree in communication, public affairs or similar

Excellent analytical skills, with attention to detail, and accuracy

Good command of social media, CMS, online monitoring tools, graphic design and office software

We offer a 6-month working experience within communications at Euro Coop

The communications intern manages the Euro Coop communications plan on a daily basis and is in direct supervision of the Communications Manager. Furthermore, in coordination with the other team members of Euro Coop, the intern makes sure that internal and external communications are precise and effective.

Main tasks that you will be assigned as Communications intern:

You will help managing the existing communication tools, and in particular two associations’ websites and newsletters (one monthly, one quarterly);

You will contribute outlining the future communications strategy of Euro Coop;

You will liaise with the other staff members to produce contents that are then distributed through existing communication tools;

You will work closely on a daily basis with the Communications Manager of an affiliate association – Cooperatives Europe.

The skills and experience that we are looking for:

University degree of at least three years in a relevant field - an advanced university communications degree and/or international relations is an asset;

Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, especially in a written form;

Excellent command of English, both spoken and written - additional language skills are an asset, in particular French;

Experience in conducting primary and secondary research with good report writing skills;

Knowledge of the functioning of the EU;

Junior Research Fellowship in Russian and/or other Slavonic Languages

Description

University College Oxford invites applications for a Junior Research Fellowship in Russian and/or other Slavonic Languages. The Fellowship will be tenable for a period of three years starting on 1 October 2016. Candidates should be engaged in literary, linguistic or cultural studies research related to the period 1800 to present. Preference may be given to candidates whose research focusses on Russian, Czech, Slovak or Polish. Candidates whose research is primarily in the field of history will not be considered.

 Junior Research Fellowships are intended to provide opportunities for outstanding academics at the beginning of their careers.  Univ has at any time between 8 and 10 JRFs.  The College has one permanent Associate Professor in Russian, Professor Polly Jones, a Senior College Lecturer in Czech (with Slovak), Dr Zuzana Rihova, and a Leverhulme Early Career Fellow in Russian, Dr Samantha Sherry. The primary duty of the postholder is to carry out research, but most JRFs offer a limited amount of teaching for the College, in the interest of their career development.

Eligibility

The primary criterion for appointment to the Junior Research Fellowship will be research excellence. Candidates must:

Have a strong academic record;

Be approaching the end of their doctoral research or have recently completed their doctorate;

Have research expertise as established by publications, or demonstrate promise of such achievement;

Have a coherent plan of research for the duration of the fellowship.

The potential to become an effective teacher will be a secondary consideration. Candidates must be confident that they will have obtained their doctorate by the start of their appointment. This position is not intended for those who have already held another stipendiary JRF or equivalent or for those who obtained their doctorate more than two years prior to the application date (except in exceptional circumstances).

Fellowship

The current stipend is £22,029 per annum, which would be reduced by the amount of salary support received from any other source, with a minimum stipend of £2,500 plus housing allowance.  Free meals and free single accommodation in College will be offered if available, or a housing allowance in lieu (£5,207 pa).  The total salary package is therefore £27,236, plus generous additional benefits, including an academic allowance (£2,200), an entertainment allowance (£183), membership of USS and private health insurance.

Internship at the International Institute of Social Studies

Description

The International Institute for Social Studies (ISS) is an international graduate school of policy-oriented critical social science in The Hague and forms part of Erasmus University Rotterdam. It carries out research, teaching and public service in the field of development studies and international cooperation. The Management and Support Organization (MSO) is responsible for providing support to staff and students at ISS. MSO consists of several teams, one of which supports externally-financed research and institutional capacity development projects. Staff working in the research and project support team are in day-to-day contact with academic staff, ISS management, donors, potential cooperation partners and external policy makers in the field of development studies and international higher education.

As an intern you will provide administrative support for project and research activities. These can include assisting at all stages of the project cycle from acquisitions through to implementation e.g. support to looking for funding opportunities, writing funding proposals, compiling documents and files, preparing and taking part in meetings, minute taking, preparing communications, organisation of activities, and occasionally accompanying our project officers to stakeholder visits. Part of the internship can be spent on the writing of a paper or assignment in the framework of intern´s studies.

Eligibility

All applicants must be students on at least a Bachelor or Master university level in a relevant field interested in at least one of the following areas:

Public administration;

International development;

International/EU relations;

Communications;

International law or finance.

The Internship duration is a minimum of 3 and a maximum of 12 months. For periods longer than 3 months only EU-nationals can apply. A good level of English, in speech as well as in writing is expected. ISS also expects a positive and proactive attitude, a strong willingness to learn, an interest to interact in a multi-cultural environment, a capability to perform assigned tasks independently and accurately, and a motivation to work hard when needed.

Remuneration

An internship at ISS offers the opportunity to improve service orientation, writing, organisational, administrative and communication skills. Intern can also learn how to organise and prioritize his/her work and improve computer skills. ISS offers a small stipend which will not be sufficient to cover the living costs in The Netherlands. With its extensive international staff and student base, the ISS hosts many social activities that intern is welcome to partake in. This includes an annual BBQ, social events and gatherings for MA and PhD students, cultural fashion shows, excursions and seasonal festivities.
