Description
The School
of Public Policy (SPP) at Central European University (CEU) offers a
two-year (MPA) degree program that seeks to train future decision-makers
and policy experts. CEU is an English-language graduate school in
Budapest, Hungary that is accredited in the United States and Hungary. SPP’s
two-year master’s program in public policy integrates three components: Knowledge,
Skills, and Practice.
Knowledge: Academic Courses
MPA students take required core courses in a selected number
of key areas including governance, economic analysis, law, ethics, and research
and analytical methods. They also have the opportunity to take electives from
among a wide range of topics, and to select one of four concentrations:
Development, Global Media and Communication, Governance, Security. Students may
also choose a specialization in Religious Studies
Skills: Skills For Impact Modules
Throughout the two-year program, MPA students participate in
a series of Skills For Impact modules where they learn the essential
skills they will need to succeed in a dynamic global environment. Some of the
topics of the skills modules include: Advocacy, Communication, Crisis and Risk
Management, Negotiation, Personal Leadership, Policy Writing, Project
Management, Strategic Leadership.
Practice: Passion Project and Internship
One of the unique features of the MPA program is the Passion
Project — an opportunity for students to apply their theoretical knowledge
and skills while gaining hands-on experience. Passion Projects are student-led,
policy-oriented capstone projects. Teams of students work together throughout
the program for clients around the world to address challenges, identify
opportunities, and/or conduct research on a pressing social question. Students
complete a required summer internship between the first and second
years of the MPA program. Internships last a minimum of six weeks and provide
students with substantive policy-related experience. Students can perform their
internships with any organization in the world.
