The German Marshall Fund of the United States (GMF) strengthens transatlantic cooperation on regional, national, and global challenges and opportunities in the spirit of the Marshall Plan.
GMF does this by supporting individuals and institutions working in the transatlantic sphere, by convening leaders and members of the policy and business communities, by contributing research and analysis on transatlantic topics, and by providing exchange opportunities to foster renewed commitment to the transatlantic relationship.
In addition, GMF supports a number of initiatives to strengthen democracies. Founded in 1972 as a non-partisan, non-profit organization through a gift from Germany as a permanent memorial to Marshall Plan assistance, GMF maintains a strong presence on both sides of the Atlantic. In addition to its headquarters in Washington, D.C., GMF has offices in Berlin, Paris, Brussels, Belgrade, Ankara, Bucharest, Warsaw, and Tunis. GMF also has smaller representations in Bratislava, Turin, and Stockholm.

GMF‘s Brussels office seeks a trainee to work on Brussels Forum, GMF’s annual flagship event that brings together 400 high-level international participants from the world of politics, business, media and ideas.
The trainee working on Brussels Forum will work closely with senior GMF staff to provide research, logistical and administrative support. The paid traineeship is a unique opportunity to be in close contact with the senior international policy community. Trainees can also benefit from the Brussels environment and attend various EU related events. The trainee will be working with a new database system and coordinating participant registrations; GMF will therefore provide him/her with a database training. This traineeship is a paid opportunity in the Brussels Office of GMF.

Key Areas of Responsibility:
• Acting as the internal point of contact for GMF staff and coordinating all external communication with Brussels Forum participants;
• Conducting research on speakers and assisting GMF staff in all other operational preparations regarding Brussels Forum; and
• Maintaining and updating the registration database system; and
• Assisting with administrative and logistical duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Requirements:
• Fluency in English. Second language skills in French, Dutch or a third European language desired, but not required.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook) is essential.
• Flexibility to multi-task, have an eye for detail, ability to perform under tight deadlines and work independently.
• Experience in political event management is a plus.
• Strong interest in transatlantic policy issues.
• Good interpersonal skills and ability to work in a multicultural environment.

Preferred starting date: Early September 2014
Preferred length of internship: 8 months

INTERNSHIP (part of your study programme) ADE ADE Analysis for Economic Decisions

ADE is a private consultancy company based in Louvain-la-Neuve, near Brussels.
It supports decision-makers in formulating, monitoring, implementing and evaluating public policies and strategies. ADE has three main areas of specialisation:

We are currently looking for a TRAINEE to support our permanent staff in our area of expertise Regional development and economic policies, in particular to work on our yearly workshop called “ ”.
In November 2006, ADE created the Network of Macro-economists for Aid and Development Economics
- -, bringing together permanent ADE staff and top-level experts in the fields of public finance, macroeconomic and sectoral policies. These experts share the same vision of the role and commitment of consultants towards their clients. The network facilitates the elaboration of cutting-edge approaches and instruments, the delivery of services of the highest possible quality and the accumulation of technical competencies. The main event of the network is a one day workshop organized every year in December to capitalize the experience and to think towards innovative approaches and instruments. As trainee, you will participate to the organization of this event and be in close contact with experts.

PROFILE

IDF Internship in Communication

Overview and Mission

The International Diabetes Federation (IDF) is an alliance of over 230 national diabetes associations with two million members in more than 170 countries and territories. For over 50 years, IDF has been at the vanguard of global diabetes advocacy. IDF has a multinational staff of around 40 people at its Brussels Executive Office and has 7 regional offices. IDF’s work relies on the contribution of a large number of expert volunteers and upon the commitment and expertise of our member associations.

The mission of the International Diabetes Federation is to promote diabetes care, prevention and a cure worldwide.

Organisation

For its Executive Office in Brussels, IDF is looking to hire an Intern to reinforce the Communications Department, preferably starting in July or August 2014 for a 6 months internship.

This is an exceptional opportunity for an individual to be part of a dynamic international federation.

Main tasks

World Diabetes Day campaign
  • Participate in World Diabetes Day planning meetings;
  • Support the social media team by providing input into the social media strategy;
  • Compiling social media and campaign metrics;
  • Undertake research on potential Blue Circle Champions and assist in coordinating outreach strategy;
  • Support campaign promotional;
  • Assist in answering and processing campaign and general communication enquiries.
Website & Media
  • Assist in website updates and postings;
  • Update and publish website content;
  • Compile a weekly news round-up;
  • Manage IDF database of media contacts; assist in media outreach;
  • Help research IDF quarterly newsletter articles and reach out to potential authors;
  • Assist with production and distribution of communications tools and merchandise to key stakeholders;

The successful candidate will report to the Director of Communications.

Knowledge and complexity

  • Educated to a Bachelor/ Master’s degree of equivalent. (Relevant field of study);

Internship Assignment: 6 Months
